Em 2007, uma câmera americana apontou para o Rio de Janeiro, e eu estava lá. O convite era para participar do episódio “Rio de Janeiro, Brazil” da série Passport to Latin America, apresentada por Samantha Brown no Discovery Travel & Living. Um programa que levava a cultura brasileira para o mundo inteiro, com o olhar curioso de quem chegava de fora querendo entender de verdade o que faz essa cidade ser única. E o que eles foram buscar? O samba. A gafieira. A dança que pulsa no corpo do carioca como se fosse algo herdado no sangue. Samantha explorou a cidade, visitou os pontos que contam a alma do Rio, e em algum momento desse percurso, a nossa dança entrou em cena. Ver alguém de fora se encantar com o que a gente vive como rotina tem um efeito estranho e bonito ao mesmo tempo. A gente começa a enxergar o próprio ofício com outros olhos. Foi divertido, leve, e ao mesmo tempo significativo. Porque cada vez que a dança brasileira atravessa uma fronteira, seja num palco ou num vídeo, ela carrega junto um pedaço de tudo que foi construído aqui, de cada ensaio, cada apresentação, cada parceria que fez sentido ao longo do caminho.
