Studirao je vizuelne komunikacije na HfG Offenbach u Njemačkoj. Od 1988–1994. bio je menadžer projekata u Meta Designu Erika Špikermana. Od 1994–2019. bio je partner i izvršni direktor kompanije “xplicit Gesellschaft für visuelle Kommunikation mbH” sa sjedištem u Frankfurtu na Majni i Berlinu (zajedno sa Tomasom Nejdželom i Uve Otom). Bio je umjetnički direktor kultnog časopisa “Frontpage” i jedan od osnivača kolaborativnog tipografskog projekta “Face2Face”. Predavao je tipografiju na Bauhaus univerzitetu u Vajmaru, FH Dortmund, kao i Kinesko-Njemačkoj Akademiji umjetnosti u Hangzhou (posredstvom UDK Berlin). Godine 2012. pokrenuo studentsku dizajn platformu “Sugarscroll” zajedno sa Urlike Brukner i Larsom Harmsenom. OD 2014. vodi “Drucken3000 Risography” sa Florinanom Haberstumpfom, a od 2018 “czyk Laboratory for Bold Exaggeration”. Tokom 40 godina rada kreirao je preko 100 tipografskih pisama.

He studied visual communication at the HfG Offenbach, Germany. He was project manager at Erik Spiekermann’s MetaDesign (1988–1994). He was a partner and managing director of xplicit Gesellschaft für Visual Kommunikation mbH based in Frankfurt/Main and Berlin (1994–2019). He is art director emeritus of the 1990s cult magazine “Frontpage” and founding
member of the collaborative type’n’typo project Face2Face. He was professor of typography at the Bauhaus University Weimar (2003–2005), FH Dortmund, University of Applied Sciences and Arts (2012–2018), Chinese-German Academy of Arts, Hangzhou (2018, via UDK Berlin). He initiated the student design platform Sugarscroll together with Urlike Brückner and Lars Harmsen (2012). Since 2014, he has been running Drucken3000 Risography with Florian Haberstumpf, and since 2018 czyk Laboratory for Bold Exaggeration. As a typeface designer he designed numerous fonts and corporate fonts for cultural institutions and business clients (Duravit AG, Sparda Bank, Christlicher Garten, Intl. Gartenausstellung Berlin, BER Berlin-Brandenburg, FEZ-Berlin, Labyrinth Kindermuseum Berlin, Avextra Pharma, Speiereck).

Join our upcoming workshop with Barcelona artist Natalia Lisinicchia, where we will explore the human body as poetry through Risograph printing.
You’ll learn all the basics of the Risograph technique and create a beautiful 2-color artwork based on your own original design.
What to bring
– A poem (your own or by a favorite author). It may or may not appear in your artwork, but it will serve as a source of inspiration.
– Visual references of the body: classical paintings, artworks, photographs, or magazine images.
What we’ll do
– A hands-on introduction to how the Risograph works (fully analog).
– Drawing, cutting, and preparing your design.
– Printing in two colors while experimenting with gesture, repetition, and texture.
– Translating poetry into image.
