It felt like I went back in time. Back where I belong. Smack-dab in the middle of a Michigan public land swamp during a monsoon.
5:15: Wake up, it’s pouring rain. Make PB & H sandwiches, coffee, and pour a glass of chocolate milk. Team meeting on the couch.
6:30: Don’t know what to do, stalling hard, still on the couch.
7:00: (still raining, staring at map) “Blind sit in the swamp?” “Ok.”
8:30: Wet suits on, walk into swamp.
10:00: Finally get setup on our little swamp island two sticks high. Sky opens and the sun shines down on us. It’s time, I hit the rattle antlers.
10:30: With the sound of a subtle mud suck my dream from the night before plays out in reality. Rack silently hovering through the cattails, takes him 15 mins to move 30 yards as he scent checks his bed.
