Ukraine 2024_©Alexandre Henry I took this photo last month in Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in Ukraine. The photos show Artem, a boy who innocently picked up a unexploded munition in a garden. The ammunition exploded in his hands, causing him to lose most of his fingers and his eye. Last Monday, it was with deep sadness that we learned that the hospital had been bombed. My heart is broken by this reality, where rage and hate spare no one, not even children. My thoughts go to all the people who suffered from these explosions, including Artem. My thoughts go to all the patients, doctors, nurses and people who worked there. My thoughts go to Ukraine and its extraordinary people, who fight every day to keep what belongs to them at the cost of their lives. Ukraine 2023 _The light into the darkness ©Alexandre Henry During my stay in Ukraine, I collected different artifacts with traces of the conflict. On these two chairs, parts were missing, destroyed by explosions. I decided to melt Russian aluminum missiles to create prostheses, which now replace the missing parts of these entities. In this work, the human takes the shape of the object, testifying the scars of war and the reconstruction that follows. The same metal that was used to destroy them is now used to rebuild them, a symbol of reconstruction that takes over the war. Durant mon séjour en Ukraine, j’ai collecté différents artefacts portant les traces du conflit. Sur ces deux chaises, des parties étaient manquantes, détruites par les explosions. J’ai alors fait fondre des missiles Russes en aluminium pour crées des prothèses, qui remplacent à présent les parties manquantes de ces entités. Dans ce travail, l’humain prend la forme de l’objet et témoigne des cicatrices de la guerre et de la reconstruction qui en découle. Le même métal qui a servi à les détruire, sert maintenant à les réédifier, symbole de la reconstruction qui prime sur la guerre.

The feet were made from shell casings in brass, which have been melted and then cast. J'ai réalisé cette sculpture à partir d'une porte que j'ai collectée dans la région de Kherson, elle porte les marques d'explosions de missiles russes. Les pieds ont été réalisés à partir de douilles d'obus en laiton, qui ont été fondues puis coulées.

« The light into the darkness » Ukraine 2023 ©Alexandre Henry This year I had the opportunity to go to Ukraine, where I stayed for 3 months. I certainly wouldn't had the opportunity to go without the help of @dca_ukraine , a Dutch NGO composed of good and courageous people, who deliver food and medical supplies to war zones. I had the chance to follow them during their missions and to document the actions done on the places. Once the mission was over, I decided to move to Kiev to pursue a sculpture project that I would soon post on Instagram. For me, it made more sense to build this work alongside Ukrainians. Despite the war, all I've seen in Ukraine are people who are brave, caring and strong. I'm feeling so lucky to have been able to live this experience and meet the people that I met. I want to thank also all the people who helped me in my project, you are gold. The war is not over, let's not forget. Design deconstruction #3 ©Alexandre Henry In this project I try to disturb the perception of the object by transform an usual bicycle into sculpture. The deconstruction of the bike will remove his functionality, and questioning the viewer about what it is.
