In this clip, Alex Hernandez (@alexandhern ) — who plays Mike in TOX — shares why the script resonated so deeply with him.
He saw in the story something he had lived himself.
In high school, feeling awkward and frustrated by the pressure to be perceived as handsome or desirable, he struggled in ways he had never spoken about publicly before. The standard felt impossible — and the shame that followed was heavy.
What moved him about TOX was seeing that same pressure explored through a woman’s lens — how beauty standards don’t just shape how we’re seen… they shape how we see ourselves.
These expectations don’t belong to one gender.
They belong to a culture.
And they leave marks — some visible, some invisible.
