While James Nasmyth patented it in 1842, François Bourdon made the first in 1840 in Le Creusot, France. Nasmyth claimed he had the idea first and suggested Bourdon nabbed the idea from his sketchbook during a 1839 visit.
That enormous blue hammer is displayed in the center of Le Creusot and was built in 1877. 100 ton falling ram weight. 750 tons of anvil in the ground. In 38 years they took a sketch in a notebook to a machine of that scale. 🤯
38 minutes of nerding out about axe forging at the @gransforsbruk shop just went live on the channel. Beyond grateful that they opened their doors to us. What an awesome day 😄 Thank you Emil and Emiel and the whole team.
What an awesome day learning about traditional Coopering from @euanthecooper . Euan is one of three remaining traditional coopers in England. He is keeping the craft alive and documenting it on his social media profiles. We published a 56 minute monster episode on the channel last night from our day in his Cooperage. I have so much respect for the physicality and skill of this craft. Thank you again, Euan!
I am very grateful to have been able to see inside the incredible factory at @bromptonbicycle and learn how they make their iconic folding bikes. I was even given a brazing lesson. What a great day.
The YouTube video of our tour is live on the channel. Enjoy!

@jamie.popple and I had the great privilege of learning about fine leatherwork at @westleyrichardsandco . I was guided through the steps to make my own bag under the watchful and patient eye of Alice. So much respect for the skill they have to make these pieces. Mine would definitely not pass QC to their exacting standards, but I’m going to treasure the bag for life. Video is live in YouTube!

I made a thing, mostly as an excuse to go climbing. Where is your next adventure going to be?
