Editor Skye Parrott and her team at Dossier have created a superb magazine, and it's my pleasure to be in their pages in the Spring/Summer 2026 issue with a story on colonial hotels. @skyeparrott @dossier.mag

The luminous dishes by chef Jonathan Karis at Chambers in NYC that I shared last night with friends commprised the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. Exquisite produce, magnificent sauces, a beautiful room, delightful servers and the glory of sommeliere Pascaline Lepeltier’s wine list has immediately made this one of my very favorite restaurants in NYC. @chambers.nyc

Lyon has always been one of my favorite destinations, and now a new generation of chefs are renewing its legendary gastronomic credentials. Here's my take on the new talent for the Michelin Guide magazine. /us/en/article/travel/lyon-restaurants-michelin-guide-france

Delightful lunch at the excellent Le P’tit Mercier in Saint Siffret @leptitmercierrestaurant Chef Hugo Mercier’s modern French cooking is so succulent and sincere, staff is charming and prices fair. Good wine list, too—Moulin de Gassac chardonnay-viognier is a perfect summer white on a warm day on a terrace with lots of birdsong.

Nimes is that rarest of Southern French cities, a place where tourism has not brusqued the unselfconscious authenticity of the city's life. If you go, don't miss chef Nicolas Fontaine's excellent new restaurant Poesie (see photo). Otherwise, here's a brief guide to the city: /magazine/travel-guide-to-nimes-france

The “empreinte végétalisee” menu at la Table de Pavie @hoteldepavie was designed by Yannick Alleno and is executed by chef Sebastien Faramond is one of the most fascinating meals to be found anywhere in France today, an ethereal symphony of vegetables, herbs and and fruit.

DINNER WITH FRIENDS ABROAD - October 3-11, 2026 An Intimate Discovery of Umbria, Italy, including a visit to Nancy Silverton's Umbrian Home Every year I join Ruth Reichl, Nancy SIlverton and Laurie Ochoa on an insiders' discovery of a food (and wine) region we especially love. Past trips have included Paris & Champagne, Bordeaux and the French and Spanish Basque Country and, last year, Puglia, Matera and Naples. The trips are always wonderful, because they bring together special people with several passionately shared interests,, but this year’s Dinner with Friends Abroad is going to be the best yet. Nancy spends part of every year in a medieval walled village high in the Umbrian hills, and over the years she’s made many food friends. We’ll spend eight days visiting them. This intimate begins with a party at Nancy’s home in Panicale (Laurie and Ruth are going early to help with the cooking), followed by days visiting cheesemakers, olive growers, farmers, salumi artisans, chefs and truffle hunters. Along the way we’ll cook with local chefs and dine in both formal and rustic restaurants. We’ll shop in local markets and explore Renaissance masterpieces in Arezzo, Orvieto and Assisi. Be warned; the group is small and space is limited. You can visit to reserve a spot, or call this this number: 1-877 298 9677. I look forward to seeing you in October!
