The stocking portrait series was something that I really liked, but it is not for everyone and I have only ever asked a handful of people to sit for it, all chosen very carefully. @olivia.concetta.lennon and @jan.van.schaik were generous enough to sit for it and they gave freely if themselves in the photos. Please enjoy these 2 portraits, they are based on an anachronistic idea of disguise with contemporary overlay of facial recognition obfuscation. Everything old is new again.

These are the “Night” versions of the portrait of Laura Vaughan @lauraplaystheviol with her baryton in the close up photo and her viola da gamba in the full length, both instruments made by the luthier Henner Harders @hennerharders When we were doings Laura’s portrait we took the time to explore an additional idea and once again it was great to be on set with a team that can see an additional idea and work with it. Stylist Sacha Kann @sacha_kann_stylist Hair and make up Hannah Marshall @marshallmakeup In house post production Lara Luz @laraluzphoto Once again these photos are all basically in camera with the post production limited to mainly cleaning up!

This is a portrait of Laura Vaughan @lauraplaystheviol , the virtuosic viola da gamba player, it is part of an ongoing portait series. This portait is all in camera: no photoshop tricks or ai, just lighting, styling by Sacha Kann @sacha_kann_stylist hair and make up by Hannah Marshall @marshallmakeup and posing by Laura Vaughan @lauraplaystheviol This photo is a real collaborative effort, something that I really value in my commercial work and artistic practice. It starts with an idea, which is conveyed to professional creatives and they take the idea and work with it, knowing that the idea is malleable and not the final product, it is the beginning. We all work on set, brining our own skills to the project with the end result being more than any one piece, greater than the original idea and better than I could do on my own. More than that, it is the human connection when creating like this that I love. The camaraderie among creative professionals, the enjoyment of creating and respect for each other is refreshing, reinvigorating and reminds us what brought us to our vocations. I am excited by the future projects that I have planned for this year and the collaborations and finished art that will be created. There is more to come from this session, I am looking forward to sharing.

One of my favourite photos from last year was this group portrait of Van Diemen's Band @vandiemensband shot on location and is now the cover of Limelight's @limelightartsau March edition. The day before the shoot I did a recce of the location and there was a ripping wind which was freezing cold and immediately cut straight to ones core. It was going to prove a little difficult to achieve the shoot. However the next day the sky was clear and I was given information, on good authority, that the weather was going to be still and calm when we wanted to shoot at dusk. The day was looking good, however on the drive up the mountain, the clouds closed in and it looked miserable. I was figuring out how we were going to save the shoot when on the way up we drove out of the clouds to perfect weather above, not far from the summit. The shoot was not warm, but there was no wind, the light was magical, the clouds below us looked surreal and the band made the shoot perfect. Working with Van Diemen's Band is one of the highlights of my year, a true creative collaboration. And if you get the chance to hear Van Diemen's Band, check them out - they are amazing.

@simon_rickard is a world class baroque bassoonist and eminent plantsman and is the first in new portrait series that I am embarking on. We photographed on location at @diggersheronswood which was where Simon worked as the head gardener in the past. If you get a chance to visit Heronswood I highly recommend it, not only for the gardens but also the architecture as it has historical significance. It also goes without saying that if you get the chance to hear Simon play, please do yourself a favour and do so. If you also need help with your garden, this is the person to talk to.
