Forgive me for being vulnerable for a moment.
Having an invisible disability kind of feels like tearing a muscle. No one can see it, but you feel it in every step you take.
In the past year, I’ve gotten 2 diagnoses that have completely changed my everyday life. And in process of going through all the medication, birth controls, MRIs, doctors appointments, and urgent care visits, I’ve had to come face to face with the reality that my passion needed be out on the back burner of my life if I want to get better.
No one talks about the ache you feel to push through all the pain just so you can enjoy 1 hour of what makes you happy; of what makes you feel fulfilled more than anything else in the world. The sadness that sits in your chest while you watch others perform knowing that if you could just get better, that could be you again. Of loving a new job in an office but still longing to be on a stage, in a class, or in an audition. The loneliness of not knowing if I will ever feel normal again and being surrounded by people who love and support me but also not wanting to be a burden on others when it feels overwhelming.
Despite all that has happened, I am grateful to have a job that no longer puts my health at risk and learning a new skill that I very much enjoy. I am grateful to have a partner who stays by my side no matter what diagnosis I face. And I am grateful to have good people surrounding me who love and support me. This will hopefully just be a bump in the road and I can get back to doing what I love most 🤍
