EOJ is a small experiment started at two 16mm workshops held by
@agxfilm when I was in Boston. My first hand process and scratch film. It filmed regulatory signs and was developed with caffenol, later went through both analog and digital manipulation. This project was not something formal so I am quite surprised people find it interesting.
@tldragon228 (who can have 5 coffees per day) and I had this conversation frequently: if I am not hypersensitive to caffeine, especially caffeine in coffee, I’ll be times more efficient in everyday work. Since I normally cannot have coffee, or coffee doesn’t work like that for me (I tend to be extremely sleepy or nauseous), every time I feel tired, I have to stop working (and sleep).
I noticed this since high school that I was really low in work efficiency. It used to bother me and I used to force myself drinking coffee (I still do sometimes) to work more but it only worsened my anxiety. Years later I learned that caffeine was intentionally added in a lot of products and realized the whole branding of coffee and caffeine consumption in modern society is (probably) no more than a game controlled by capitalism to embrace addiction and longer working hours. I think, there should be people like me, who’s “lazy” and say no to a modern body.
I was once confused why coffee is called Joe in English. I checked different theories and found this one interesting: Joe is the most common name just like coffee is the most common drink for everyone. Ok I’ll just call this film EOJ cause it’s the opposite for me.
This filmed was premiered at
@antimattermediaart and was exhibited at
@deluge_contemporary
It will later be screened at
@bisffest and
@nodoccs and toured in Europe in the live performance by
@kinopleme
Please be advised that this film does not indicate I will say no to a coffee chat or anyone who wants to buy me coffee ☕️
