So I made a cover of an @erraband song with a little extra Rigatoné sauce. A while back I found out the meaning behind the song “Orchid” and it kinda stuck to my soul ever since. As musicians, we tend to write our deepest feelings in lyrics or channel that energy into a composition. This song was written with that intent and I can feel it. Even before I knew the meaning, I knew this song had something attached to it that was visceral. My time in Erra was special. I didn’t know exactly how much success would follow, but I had this gut feeling that Erra would be huge. Here we are in 2022 and I couldn’t be more proud of the band they’ve become and the sound they’ve worked so hard to build. I wanted to write a solo to Orchid because the meaning moved me. It’s on the first Erra album after I left. It’s an album I didn’t listen to for years because of my former bitterness. I went back and listened to the entirety of Drift and it’s probably one of my favorite Erra records aside from their recently released self titled. Jesse’s solo is sick and I didn’t write my own to compete with his. The song just reminded me of how much we clicked as musicians and how much fun we had despite our trials. Life is funny but I couldn’t be happier with how our paths diverged. I probably wouldn’t be a dad to three beautiful kids or would have learned the many lessons I needed to be a better man. Thank you for taking me on that journey Erra. I love that you’re a piece of me. I tried my best to isolate the vocals on the original track to put over mine so hopefully it doesn’t sound too bad. ERRA - Spirits Away This was the very last song I wrote for ERRA. I remember turning this song in to the guys last minute and it ended up being one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. The song ebbs and flows with each section changing pace and feel. I’m glad this was the song I went out on. ERRA - Crimson Programming these songs on guitar has been a lot of fun because it’s letting me back into the headspace of my writing back in the day. This song is full of dual guitar riffs that play something different for each guitar, but harmonize perfectly. It’s probably my favorite way to write. Monster Riff + A little backstory. Good to be back ✌️ I’ve been locked in the last couple months and making some huge progress with the pain that was in my body that I put off for years. I’ve stripped my whole technique drumming wise and I’m even retracting myself how to walk correctly. It’s been a painful and a longer road than I thought, but very rewarding so far. Got a little more to go. BUT. @alanrigdon cooked up some incredible parts to this random improv idea that I had put on the stories a while back, and it’s phenomenal. Guys, I never ask to speak to the manager but this is aggravating. Please don’t be misled and buy into the AI metal slop that people are trying to pass off as their own. Much to be said about this topic and I take it seriously as I’ve spent my whole life playing/writing music. I don’t hate workflow AI, I hate generative AI. The generative aspect of it is poison to the music community and it’s only going to get more ridiculous…or is it? Let me know your thoughts in a comment!
