We say these words every morning that I drop her off at school and have been since 1st grade… dear god I’m hoping they sunk in somewhere along the way cuz this morning after we said them she walked into high school.. crazy town

Most actors completely change the second they start the scene.
Voice changes.
Energy changes.
Behavior changes.
And suddenly… it feels acted.
So on our live Friday call inside the You’re Awesome community, I walked a few actors through an exercise I’ve been obsessed with lately so the rest of the group could see how it works before trying it themselves this week. Shout out to @averyjulian_ for being a good sport.
The assignment:
Start by talking about something you’re ACTUALLY frustrated about in real life.
Then slide directly into the monologue without changing anything.
Same naturalism.
Same honesty.
Same behavior.
The audience should never feel the switch.
And honestly… the work people are turning in is getting REALLY interesting.
Because when actors stop trying to “perform” the scene and start living inside it, something shifts.
That’s where the good stuff starts.
