Great T. Peck ballet, with Hillary Hahn incredible on Lalo, and a schtick w Mick Jagger and Jimmy Fallon. (and we had a great fried chicken dinner after at Maison Pickle)!
Unbelievable! Alice Boatwright, who is Howard Boatwright's daughter, shared this program with me from my teenage years. This was basically my first chamber music experience. I was 18 or 19. 3 sonatas including the Kreutzer!!
Coming from a jazz background, I was sort of an autodidactic classical musician and it was people like Howard that nurtured me and gave me experience and early confidence.
Howard was a great composer, and Hindemith was his teacher. He was also a fine violinist.
He was also my composition teacher for about 2 years, and was VERY helpful. I wrote a piano sonata and set some E. E. Cummings poems with his guidance.
He wrote a famous book on Ives also. He was a husband to Helen, (who recorded Ives Songs with John Kirkpatrick), and a father.
Thanks Howard!!!! You helped nurture alot of happiness from music
in me.
