🌟 We are delighted to present the work of new PSSA Member Alana Lake
With a practice rooted in queer minimalism, Alana Lake (b. 1981, Tamworth, UK) works primarily with glass, ceramic, metal, concrete, and salvaged industrial fragments. Her work examines how contemporary addictions, desires, and repetitive behaviours shape culture and identity.
Lake completed postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools in 2009. Recent exhibitions include Wanting / Yearning (2026), Broken Ecologies (2026), Humor My Love (2025–26), and The Omnipotence of Dream (2024). She has received a DYCP from ACE (2024/25), a Research Scholarship and the Project Space Award from the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa (2022, 2018), a NEUSTART Stipendium from the Deutscher Künstlerbund (2021), and the Dunoyer de Segonzac and Michael Moser Awards from the Royal Academy of Arts (2008, 2009).

We’re excited to share a new interview with Alana Lake (@alanalake.studio ), in conversation with Dawn Woolley (@dawnwoolleystudio ), now live on YAC.
In this honest and open exchange, Alana talks about the ideas behind their exhibition Wanting, Yearning at Haarlem Artspace (@haarlemartspace ), curated by Kristian Day (@kristiandaygallery ). They reflect on themes of desire, addiction and control, and how these play out through images, objects and personal experience, drawing attention to the push and pull between attraction and discomfort.

Private tour: Broken Ecologies with artist @alanalake.studio 🖤
Join us at @castlefieldgall for a special evening exploring Broken Ecologies — the powerful new exhibition by Alana Lake and Deeqa Ismail.
Alana will lead us on a private, curated tour through themes of power, protest, memory, and survival. Expect large-scale print works, film, and sculpture — including a cast glass police truncheon, a marble baseball bat, and layered woodblock prints that carry stories across generations.
Against a backdrop of climate crisis and social unrest, the artists ask: What is the role of the artist in times of crisis?
