A very special celebration called for special desserts. Over 16,000 individually piped dots of frosting on this cake. Plus some of my cactus cupcakes - the dessert that started it all. 🌵🌵🌵 Loved celebrating my cousin @brittanyjonessdiary at her baby shower last night!
I worked on a special story with @elledecor for their October issue (out now!) in which I baked 8 cakes based off their selection of this season’s best rugs. Go grab a copy and get ready for some oversharing from yours truly as I post a look at some of the cakes over the next week. First up, this cake was inspired by a beautiful antique Persian rug from Mansour. Each individually piped dot of buttercream was kept low and compact to reflect the pile - not the least time consuming decorating technique, tbh. Swipe for a better look. Most importantly, I wanted to extend a huge thank you to the incredible team at Elle Decor for the commission, words cannot express how much this means to me. Thank you for your support, I am forever grateful. 💛

Clover requested a party with her cousins for her 3rd birthday so we took the party to San Diego where all the cousins are. I told myself this could be an off year and I wouldn’t need to do anything, but then ended up making 15 varieties of cupcakes (inspired by her favorite things) and 2 cakes. On the drive down to San Diego I leaned into her car seat and said “I love you, birthday girl” and she replied “I love you, birthday mama” which seemed to represent much more. Making birthdays special…what a wonderful job that is.
Before I share 3rd birthday photos from this past weekend, I thought I should share the 2nd birthday first! Here’s a little look at Clover’s “Bert-day” inspired by her and Ernie’s favorite pal, Bert. I made a Bert cake, some Bert stripe cupcakes and enlisted @compactcookies to make Bert cookies. For gift bags, I glued paper cutouts of Bert’s face to the bags and stuffed them with vintage Bert and Ernie toys. I also scored some vintage Bert and Ernie stuffies on eBay for kids to pick from. I found some striped Bert fabric on @spoonflower and sewed Clover a Bert dress for the party (inspired by a @joonbird.shop pattern). Loved that almost everything used for the party was either handmade or secondhand. It was such a fun day with friends in our favorite park for my most favorite Bert-loving girl.
Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh My! 🦁🐯🐻 Big year for animal cakes. PS - No fondant or modeling chocolate was used on the sculpted cakes, only buttercream and cake.
@sincerelyjules sure knows how to throw a party! Highly suggest scrolling through all of the photos she posted from this day. The thought, creativity and LOVE she pours into all of her parties is truly inspiring. Such an honor to get to be a part of this one ❤️ 📷: @elli_lauren
Nice, crispy contrast with this dazzle camouflage inspired cake. Dazzle camouflage was developed by Norman Wilkinson for the British Royal Navy during WW1 to distort ships’ dimensions and boundaries - a brief but effective tactic with visual learnings in contrasting patterns that expanded well beyond. I truly loved piping each of these tiny dots by hand. Thank you for the incredible request, Jen 🖤🤍
Loved this Bargello needlepoint-inspired cake that went out this week. Didn’t get a great photo of the scale, but it was a big one! For my favorite @partycrushevents 💛
Today feels like an appropriate day to share some photos from my daughter Clover’s first birthday last October. I went with an obvious clover theme, all our friends and family wore green and it was the gosh darn best day in the park celebrating this incredible tiny human. So wild how much she’s grown since then! 🥹💚🍀☁️
It’s A Small World! This cake is a love letter to Mary Blair. The cake is based on the facade of the ride, which was significantly designed by Mary Blair - an artist whose work has always resonated so deeply in my soul. I’ve dreamed of making this cake for a long time, thank you @partycrushevents for giving me a reason to make it! 📷: @studiocodycloud
#TargetPartner I am so excited to partner with @target to help celebrate their upcoming design partnership with @dvf . Diane von Furstenberg’s patterns have been a huge source of inspiration for me - as you might imagine, getting to translate a Diane von Furstenberg pattern into a cake was an absolute dream come true. Thank you to @target and @dvf for having me be a part of this incredibly exciting announcement. #DVFxTarget launches 3/23. The countdown is on!
