Great to be back in @davittcollegecastlebar this morning for the @rotaryclubcastlebar Career Connects Talks.
A brilliant initiative by Shane, John, Willie, the Rotary Club and all the teachers involved - giving students the chance to hear real stories and think about their future.
It’s the kind of opportunity I would have loved at school.
Thanks to all the students for listening, engaging and taking part so well. I hope you each took something positive from the morning.
Today, Friday May 15th, is National Go Purple Day, led by An Garda SĂochána, to raise awareness of the supports available for people experiencing domestic abuse.
It was great to meet Community GardaĂ Mick Toland and Olive Lafferty, and Lorraine Hession from @safeirelandmayo , to mark this important day.
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. Help is available, and no one should have to face it alone.
More information and supports in the link in my bio.

Great news for Mayo bus users 🚌
From 25th May, Irish Citylink will run 8 daily return services between Ballina and Galway.
That means 3 extra return services for students, commuters, workers, families and older people who rely on this route every week.
This is an important link for communities across Mayo, including:
📍 Ballina
📍 Foxford
📍 Ballyvary
📍 Castlebar
📍 Balla
📍 Claremorris
📍 Ballindine
When Bus Éireann confirmed Route 52 was being withdrawn, I raised the issue directly with the NTA and Minister Sean Canney because this service matters.
People need reliable buses to get to college, work, appointments, Galway city and home again.
This is a welcome step, and I’ll keep pushing to make sure Mayo gets the public transport services it needs.

Great to run with the FTD Brothers in #Castlebar today.
A huge turnout from people right across Mayo, all out to support two great lads doing something very special running a marathon a day in every county for dementia awareness and support.
Dementia touches so many families. Well done lads, Mayo was proud to back ye today 👏🏻💚❤️
Today I was delighted to launch a new Government initiative Startup Ireland at Enterprise Ireland’s Start-Up Day, with over 700 people in attendance.
This new programme is focused on strengthening Ireland’s start-up ecosystem and supporting founders with better access to funding, experienced mentors, accelerator programmes and international markets.
Start-ups are central to Ireland’s future economy. They create jobs, drive innovation and help Irish ideas compete globally.
Startup Ireland is about backing that ambition through a new National Accelerator Program and helping more Irish founders start, scale and succeed.

Really positive update today as the €6.4 million contract for the new Cultural & Heritage Visitor Centre at @ballintubberabbey has been awarded, with construction to begin shortly.
I’m proud to see this landmark project progress to the next stage, supporting the next chapter in Ballintubber Abbey’s 800-year history.
This phase of the restoration will transform the derelict east wing into a modern, three-storey Culture and Heritage Visitor Centre, funded under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
A huge credit to Fr. Fahey, Fr. Farragher and the Ballintubber Abbey Trust for their dedication and persistence in bringing this vision forward over the past 17 years.
I’d like to wish the very best of luck to everyone taking part in the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon cycle today in Castlebar, now in its 17th year!
It’s always a fantastic occasion, raising money for a very worthy cause and I’m looking forward to taking part in it again. Great to see former Taoiseach and my good friend Enda Kenny on the start line as usual.
A happy Mayo Day to all, I hope you have a very safe and enjoyable bank holiday weekend.
Happy Mayo Day everyone!
There are loads of events planned today right across our county, in Castlebar, Ballina, Kiltimagh, Mayo Abbey, Aghamore, Ballycroy, and even further afield - our rich heritage is being celebrated right across the world.
See full list of events on mayo.ie, and make sure to get out and support your community on this great day.

Delighted to confirm that the HSE Board has approved the contract award for the new Emergency Department at Mayo University Hospital.
I have worked hard to keep this project moving, and this is a major step forward for patients, families and frontline staff across Mayo.
This project has been needed for a long time, and it will mean better facilities, better care and a stronger hospital for our county.
I want to thank Minister for Health @jennifer_carrollmacneill for her support and commitment to progressing this vital project.
Further details on the contract and the commencement of works will be provided shortly.
This is real progress for Mayo.
