I’m still blown away…
Aku’s BBQ didnt start until February of this year. Road bump after road bump and we’re here today - From leaving a business partnership to getting surprise inspections and leaving my home base.
It takes a village to build and there are so many people that have supported me from day 1.
I know a certain someone is looking down and smiling at what we’ve started.
Thank you everyone for getting AKUSBBQ to where it is today… now let’s keep it going 🤙

my favorite part of pop-ups is meeting the owner and hearing the story behind it all. today’s convo with aku was amazing — and the yakitori were unreal. i got pork belly, chicken, chicken gizzard, and the lamb chop.

It’s a repeat of Post St in SJ…
Some unknown Karen neighbor doesn’t like pop ups and bootstrapped small businesses.
We’re postponing events in Albany until we can get everything in order. In typical Bay Area fashion, the bureaucratic red tape and fees NEVER END.
Alameda County has been particularly difficult and expensive to operate. (As many friends have also told me) it’s all political.
Every step forward has been met with resistance, whether it’s from NIMBYs or uncooperative county workers. It’s almost like they only care to see you fail.
Doesn’t matter though. Success comes with sacrifice and we’re gonna make it work!

Wassup everyone!! Been doing some private events recently and I love it, but I love the pop ups just as much! Negima’s been a favorite as always 🤩
Got quite a few events lined up so come through!! Reworked the usual menu to mix things up. Thought that the weather could use some warm and bright things.
Throwing in ume shiso maki - chicken breast rolled with shiso, topped with ume.
Getting back into the flow of pop ups and private events but I’m back in full force starting off this Friday with a last min pop up @dtsjbrewing 6-9pm
Following up I’ll be at @craftsman_coffee on Sunday 11am-3pm.
Later in the month we got @morningtide.shop , @noriawines , and @vinylwinebar .
