some ‘filmgrabs’ of the three prints i’m screening with @toneglow and @cinema_luz • Guarita, 2025, a collage film, shot frame by frame, of the many neighborhood security guard houses in são paulo city. • Desire Path, 2025, another collage film also shot frame by frame and basically comissioned by @misterminsoo , featuring desire paths (literally and metaphorically) around chicago. • Dois Estágios, 2022, a film about home. a film about my grandparents, my parents, and myself. everything that shaped me. still to this day the most important collaboration i made with John. still to this day the film i hold nearest to my heart. i’m so excited to show these prints for the first time ever at @chicagopatchworkfarms tonight photos by @creechlikesthisone @double.perf

Tone Glow and Cinema-Luz are excited to present “Treasured Living,” an event highlighting films from Les Blank and Lua Borges. The screening will take place on Saturday October 4th, 2025 at Patchwork Farms, a BIPOC-led urban farm and farmer’s market located in Humboldt Park. The films will be shown outdoors at 7:30pm, all on 16mm. Les Blank (1935-2013) was an American documentary filmmaker whose works took a congenial and crucial look into various American musicians, cultures, and scenes. Naturally, food is a focus of some of his films, and we will be showing 1980’s ‘Garlic is As Good as Ten Mothers’ (Short Version) and 1990’s ‘Yum, Yum, Yum! A Taste of the Cajun and Creole Cooking of Louisiana’, which was made with Maureen Gosling. Blank once said, “Food is sensual. It keeps bodies alive and people together.” Lua Borges is a Chicago-based filmmaker originally from Brazil who works with the analog medium to capture the ephemera and interiority of everyday life. Three of her films will be shown, all of which will be premieres on new prints. This includes 2020’s ‘Dois Estágios’, a documentary that explores the beginning and end of a bloodline, starting in the urban of São Paulo where she was raised, and then ending on the country farm where her grandparents spend their golden years. The film delves into the personal and shared history of her Brazilian family. ‘Guarita’ & ‘Desire Path’, both from 2025, will also be shown. These are one-roll collage films of guard houses in São Paulo and desire paths along Chicago, respectively. Tone Glow commissioned Borges to make a film for this screening and the result was ‘Desire Path’. 🎟️ in bio. @toneglow is a publication founded by @misterminsoo . @cinema_luz is a film collective founded by @aka_lua . Special thanks to @chicagopatchworkfarms , @canyoncinema , @creechlikesthisone . 1. Lua Borges, Guarita (2025, 3 mins) 2. Lua Borges, Desire Path (2025, 3 mins) 3.
