OOST, our love. Nine years in that place have shaped my identity like nothing else has. Past months: frustrating, wing-clipping, ludicrous. Last weekend: exactly what it needed to be. The emotional release… For my general sentiments I wanna refer to the caption I wrote for the final @komoost post; it came straight from the ticker. Praying to dog that it managed to reflect a bit of everyone involved in this beautiful place. On top of it: one very special word of love to @long.bram and @jorncanrinus . Thank you for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to materialise an artistic vision together with everyone around us. Teenage dream fulfilled, it’s been the highest honour, I’ll owe both of you forever <3 And bless everyone who worked, danced and clicked behind these glass doors. In there, feeling and sharing what it’s all really about.

Surreal to see a wild idea we had three years ago form into a fully fledged festival. Today the lineup we’ve worked on over the past year meets the stage at four fantastic locations around Groningen. Can’t wait to see how @hybrid.festival 2025 goes down! Huge thank-you to production legends @annikaklngnbrg & @wietsekuiper , marketing minds @echtejannes & Tim Stienstra, graphic design visionary @timtijink , funding wizard @annelieloos , all of the staff on location, the volunteers(MVP’s), all of the patient agents and the partners who helped pull this thing together. Of course the heart & soul passion project gets overhauled instantaneously. Luckily we still have the memories. I’ve been getting enormous joy from collaging an hour of music every month; everything else in the pipeline for ALOW stays right there for just a little bit longer. I’ll chalk it up to other writing bits, new job, OOST and the works. Medium-sized things coming. Tonight in fact: back on @relate.radio at 21:00 with a handful of no wave, art punk, postpunk favourites. The previous two ALOS shows – including the most frivolous minute of radio I’ve ever squeezed out in slide 2 – are up on SoundCloud now. S/o to the various studio goblins making the first Friday of every month a blast.

Through spellbinding techno, murky electronics, freakish mutations of house music and a scorched punk fringe, the @komoost booker draws experimentation of all decades from the cables and currents. For every edition of ‘A Lump Of Sound’ I, also known as Kos, poke around another outskirt of my music collection. Tracing the connection between strange genre pairings to shove sticks into the wheels called ‘dance music’ and ‘listening music’.  In this first episode the intrigue of industrial meets the fringe joy of outsider house. From the late eighties til the odd age of now the two have been mysteriously connected. Pulled some insectenmuziek out of the rock bag. Last Saturday’s opening of the @komoost x @dkmntl night was recorded and here’s me tossing it online. Far from flawless, this one was a great reminder why playing is such a blast in the first place. Swerved through mutant deep house, proto-trance, haunted acid, dub dance, Japanese new wave & psych rock, industrial, Crass and Test Dept on the intuition that’s so easy to ditch for seamlessness. Big love to @vladimir_ivkovic and @na_one_ for riding the lightning below a cool 130bpm all night long. Thanks to @oyoy._.oy for the snap. Link to the recording up top.
