Closing Week!! Don’t miss Off Leash by Alexander Rohrig — closing Saturday, September 13th. We are open Thursday through saturday from 10:00 - 4:00, or by appointment. A few commissions are still available from Alex—reach out if you’d like to explore a custom work. Rohrig’s @ajrohrig work combines oil painting and sculpture to explore the relationships between humans, animals, and landscape. His densely composed, richly narrated paintings draw from spiritual, natural, and intellectual sources, depicting scenes of farm life with recurring subjects like horses, pigs, dogs, sheep, and workers. These scenes reflect his view of pastoral life as chaotic and honest, not idealized. The exhibition also features carved sculptural dog portraits from wood or stone, showcasing Rohrig’s tactile engagement with material. These works combine humor and restraint to reveal animal dignity and our deep connection with them. The title, Off Leash, signifies a call to slow down, pay attention, and rethink our place in the physical world. Dogs symbolize connection, control, and presence, representing questions about what we are tethered to—routine, technology, or distraction. Together, the work in the show creates an ecosystem encouraging curiosity, play, and mindful awareness of our environment. Photography by @andrelishus

“If I paint a wild horse, you might not see the horse... but surely you will see the wildness!” 🐎 — Pablo Picasso In Off Leash, Alexander Rohrig channels that same raw spirit. His elegant line work transforms metal into horses that convey dynamism, strength, and grace with a single curve. Whether working in wood, stone, paint, or steel, Rohrig distills the essence of his subjects with both subtlety and precision. Off Leash is on view through September 13th at RAM

“I aim to capture the essence of the spirit in my animal sculptures, making them come alive for the viewer. I respond to the wood or stone by handling it, turning it around, and letting it speak to me. Certain materials want to be something and their message is transferred through touch and viewing them from different angles.” @ajrohrig Artist Talk: Tomorrow (7/25) at 10:30 Alexander Rohrig Poasted Hawk, 2025 Painted PIne 20 x 65 x 3 inches 50.8 x 165.1 x 7.6 cm

Opening Friday | Off Leash by Alexander Rohrig Rooted in observation and lived experience, Rohrig’s work explores the emotional and material relationships between humans, animals, and land. His carved dog portraits and layered farm scenes offer a quiet, tactile counterpoint to modern life—honest and full of care. His background—shaped by a BA in Art and Politics from UC Santa Cruz and a long-term mentorship with sculptor Jane Rosen—informs a body of work that is both formally rigorous and deeply intuitive. Rohrig has exhibited at Gail Severn Gallery (Sun Valley), Good Mother Gallery (Oakland), and The Mill (San Francisco), and has been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as Hashimoto Contemporary, the Palo Alto Art Center, and the Bolinas Museum. 📍 Reception: Friday, June 27 | 5:30–7:30 PM Alexander Rohrig Feeding the Sheep, 2023 Oil on canvas, 30 x 40 in. @ajrohrig

Off Leash | Alexander Rohrig at RAM 🐕🐩🐕‍🦺 As part of Off Leash, Alexander Rohrig presents a series of dog portraits carved from wood or stone. With formal restraint and material sensitivity, each sculpture captures the essence of its subject through expressive texture, quiet humor, and simplified form. These works reflect Rohrig’s ongoing interest in the relationship between humans and animals—grounded, honest, and deeply observant. As the artist notes, “I respond to the wood or stone by handling it, turning it around, and letting it speak to me. Certain materials want to be something and their message is transferred through touch.” On view at RAM beginning June 27. @ajrohrig
