Building a bigger “Path to the Pitch” takes a village—and a great partner. We are so proud to announce that the @ajcnews is the official sponsor of our Path to the Pitch (PTTP) program! Their support allows us to keep girls engaged, confident, and playing the game they love. Through this partnership, we’re able to provide: FREE access for all youth to every Decatur FC home game. ⚽️ Wednesday Night Light Clinics for skill building. Mini-camps and the Sports Bra Project to ensure every athlete has what she needs to succeed. Join us in thanking the AJC for investing in the next generation of Decatur athletes! We were thrilled to participate last night in a screening of the "Contaminated: The Carpet Industry’s Toxic Legacy" documentary at the historic DeSoto Theatre in Rome, Georgia. The documentary features reporting from FRONTLINE, The Associated Press, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Post and Courier and AL.com that fueled the multi-newsroom investigation looking into how PFAS chemicals once used in popular stain-resistant carpets ended up in the water and environment in parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The audience watched the documentary and participated in a Q&A with Brad Schrade, Dylan Jackson and Justin Price from the AJC's investigative team, along with Dana Barr, professor at Emory University's Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health, and Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman, executive director and riverkeeper with the Coosa Basin River Initiative. 📸 @arvintemkar

We're proud to share that @ajcnews ' "ICE Sweeps Georgia" social video series has won in the Interactive category at the @peabodyawards . From the Peabody jury: As immigration enforcement reshapes communities across America, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was among the first to capture its human cost through this viscerally intimate social video series. Produced by four reporters and more than a dozen video producers, ICE Sweeps Georgia uses vertical video, body camera footage, and first-person perspective to place viewers inside one of the most consequential stories unfolding nationwide. What began with stories about a Trump-voting family whose son was detained and a Georgia-born man wrongfully arrested as an “unauthorized alien” grew into a mosaic of perspectives on federal power colliding with local lives, garnering 2.8 million views. The newsroom accomplished this in the same year it published its last print edition after 157 years in circulation. Rather than repurpose print coverage for social platforms, the team deployed social video from the ground up as an essential journalism tool in the digital age. For masterfully merging time-honored reporting with social-native storytelling techniques to show the human toll of immigration enforcement, ICE Sweeps Georgia wins a Peabody Award. In 1980, a Stonehenge-esque monument called the Georgia Guidestones appeared in the rural county of Elbert. Financed and designed by a mysterious donor, it presenting ten guidelines for mankind, guidelines that were interpreted by some as a satanic. In 2022, the roadside attraction was blown-up by an unknown assailant. For this episode, Tyler McBrien @brien_mctyler , host of the new podcast Who Blew Up the Guidestones? from @ajcnews , tells me the story of this confounding roadside attraction from the beginning and shares the wild truths he uncovered while trying to solve this kitschy yet consequential small town mystery. We're thrilled to share our true-crime podcast "Who Blew Up The Guidestones?" is a featured show on @applepodcasts . The podcast outlines the origins and motivations of a once-anonymous benefactor – an individual using the pseudonym R.C. Christian – in building the Georgia Guidestones. Journalist Tyler McBrien and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution trace the tensions the Guidestones ignited across decades, how conspiracy theorists and political actors shaped the monument’s meaning, and the timeline of the final days before the 2022 explosion. The podcast features extensive and never-before-heard AJC reporting and interviews from the voices surrounding the building and destruction of the Guidestones. Binge all episodes of the podcast now.
