I’m proud (and post-proud) to have been asked to design this art for a new initiative from the @mpeg700 Political Engagement Committee!
They/we are pushing guild members to voice their support for Assembly Bill 2319, which would establish a dedicated tax credit for post-production work completed in California.
This legislation is long overdue to put an end to the outsourcing and industry flight that has been happening in CA for the last 3+ years.
I’ll be traveling up to the state Capitol this weekend for a legislative session Monday addressing this bill with a group of guild members and hopefully, I’ll get a moment to tell my story and how important it is that we get work back to the people of this state.
Thank you @ajcatoline and @filmsinfocus for tapping me in!
The PEC will give these buttons out at a member event on April 25, titled “Spring Into Action,” where Assemblymember Nick Schultz will speak with Local 700 members about his bill.
I saw the most poignant moment at Sundance where Salman Rushdie spoke after Alex Gibney’s powerful docu film KNIFE, about how he survived an attack of political violence. This is so resonant after this week and there was an attack on a US Congressman Maxwell Frost here in Park City. Rushdie commented that authoritarian leaders who provoke violence will always fear culture. #sundance
My friend and union brother Erik Andersen and I are running for the MPEG Board because we are passionate about helping members. If you haven’t voted yet, please do so by Wednesday morning December 10! AJ-MPEG700.com
2025 has been a rough year for our LA community. The mission of a trade union is to bring people together to solve the common problems and challenges we share — like the loss of too many jobs and members. If you are lucky enough to still be part of this union, then please use your privilege and right to show the power of our solidarity: VOTE in the Local 700 election. AJ-MPEG700.com
Hello Local 700 members! The MPEG election begins this week. Voting is a cornerstone of our union democracy. Your voice is your VOTE!
I’m running for Vice President because our Local faces an existential crisis - we are losing union jobs and union members. I will help lead the Editors Guild through tough times by concentrating our resources on the CORE VALUES of being a trade union. We won’t just fight back. We will fight forward!
I discuss more about how on my website, take a look. Feel free to share your ideas, and this post. Stay tuned to emails from the Guild about the election. In solidarity,
AJ
