🔊sound on! — A short excerpt 👀 from our upcoming collaborative video work with PhD researcher Andrea Jaeger @ajaeg from Nottingham Trent University. 🎞️✨ Her research explores the multi-sensorial and immaterial aspects of photography, expanding the understanding of what photography is beyond traditional approaches that primarily focus on the reading of photographs. Different photographic practices—tensioning, fogging, and tearing photosensitive paper— were explored through artistic research methodologies, highlighting the role of non-visual senses and non-human agency in the making of photography. Our contribution to her research aims at bringing back into the visual realm the three practices Andrea experienced in different production sites including laboratories and manufacturing plants. We enjoyed the process in all its steps: from the initial idea exchange that sparked our interest to the making and editing of the video work. As Grupppo, we always welcome new collaborations with artists, researchers and institutions looking for visual solutions. 🔗 #aesthetics #phdstudies #humanities #videowork #photography #photographytheory #artdirection #designwork #Grupppo #contemporaryphotography #postphotography #visualart

I have had the pleasure to be welcomed to the Low Residency space @studio459tomar hosted by Mark, Goao and Poppy and made possible by the brilliant Host_Guest_Host @contraststructurebrightness . We walked on Portuguese land, faced the aftermath of hurricane Christen, indulged in the culinary delights of artisan chef @joaogravanita25 , laughed, rested, conversed in much needed peer support and gave ourselves and another permission to feel our ways in making and creating in the aftermath of hurricane PHDoing with many wounds healing and intellectual burdens to be shed. It’s been a thrill and then some.

Fig 1. 404 Not Found by Yusuke Nagata. Street photography of Tokyo’s subculture of going out, enjoying life, partying which Yusuke has captured in an authentic appealing manner. Yusuke told me that most important is to have fun too when shooting. Yusuke framed the expansive compilation of Tokyos street life in a beautifully printed zine under the concept of the error code ‘404-not found’ as a reminder that ‘the real’ happens outside of social media. Yusuke’s version of Tokyo’s ‘real’ presents mostly as black and white moments that are loud, sharp and raw unless there is ‘The smoking lady’ (Fig. 2) sitting in solitude and silence. I treated myself to the fresh of the press zine ‘404 contact sheets’ (Fig. 3) consisting of many film negatives to demonstrate the process as much as final shots. Pure visual pleasure; arigato goseimasu Yusuke. #_nuts.tokyo_ #streetphotography_bw

Fig 1. It shows the subtle evening sunlight flickering through the trees. In Japanese it’s called ‘Komorebi’, a notion to describe “the scattered light that filters through when sunlight shines through trees”. Fig 2. Replica of uranium ore Fig 3. Mount Fuji replica at the Science Museum Fig 4. Hokusai ‘The 36 Views of Mt Fuji’
