Ai-Yah reusable shopping bag 🛒🛍️💝
Plastic shopping bags are highly valued cultural objects. The more one accumulates, the closer to the heavens they become. The contemporary reusable shopping bag is becoming a new symbol of sanctity.
Ai-yah is “an exclamatory phrase used by Chinese (and more often, Chinglish) speakers to express dismay, shock or fear.”
陰功囉 is a Toi San phrase that often follows ai-yah. The saying loosely translates to “how pitiful,” “what a shame,” “life is hard,” if one wishes to express extreme anguish and rage, only if it comes from within.
I designed and screen printed each bag with love and insatiable rage. Message on ig to purchase for $15- especially if you or a loved one use this phrase. Shipping fee may apply to deliver outside of Austin, TX

AI-YAH WORLD products are inspired by Chinese and Chinese American d*aspora sayings and grocery objects. As an artist I take inspiration from the food products and traditions which the elders of my family and community enjoy (or at least use often). Ai-yah is “an exclamatory phrase used by Chinese (and more often, Chinglish) speakers to express dismay, shock or fear.”
Before purchasing, please consider the connection which you (or the person you would buy this for) have to the object or statement that is represented in the artwork.
I desire for AI-YAH WORLD products to go to people who have memories or experiences including these objects and statements or who meaningfully resonate with the context of the artwork.
The free market is falsely advertised. What if we freed ourselves from our powerful and sacred roles as consumers and sellers. AI-YAH WORLD products do not exist to stimulate the economy.
Thank you for your interest in AI-YAH WORLD products. I consider commissions for custom projects sometimes.
Anyways perhaps you can buy one of these canvas tote bags for $15 I might say no sometimes tho or put haole tax
