One truth about africa is that, female children are confined to a particular space which involves doing domestic chores and handling petty businesses of the family. The mentality of some persons in African countries (Nigeria inclusive) is that she is considered fit for the kitchen and the house, and "that she is not to be schooled" because her primary role is to be a HOUSE KEEPER. This orientation makes her not to realise her full potentials, thereby limiting her thinking and lowering her self-esteem that makes her feel value-less.
Cultural misconception is a tool that has being a hindrance to a lot of girls getting educated. Illiteracy is another major challenge of girl-child education, and so there is poor enlightenment about the benefits of educating a girl-child. So many illiterate parents see no reason why a girl-child has to go to school. Some of their reasons are; a girl child will be someone else’s in the future, so there is no benefit in giving her education. One basic fact about the importance of girl-child education cannot be overemphasised. Every child should be given the opportunity to be educated irrespective of gender as both sexes can bring equal growth and contribution to the society. According to an African proverb, “IF YOU EDUCATE A BOY, YOU EDUCATE ONE PERSON BUT IF YOU EDUCATE A GIRL YOU EDUCATE A FAMILY AND NATION”. An empowered woman is full of great potential, strength, courage and knowledge which she passes down to society. *SO WHY SLEEP ON A GIRL CHILD?*
