We finished this nursery just in time for Mother’s day for this soon to be mama of 2! Coming back to do special projects for previous clients is what makes this job really rewarding. Our clients will welcome their baby girl this week and we feel honored to have been asked to design her very special nursery.
Our clients had gone away to a boutique NYC hotel and showed me a few inspo pics. Can you design the nursery based on these pics? We sure can.
Fun fact- the changing table tray was discontinued and the only option that fit this dresser was white. We decided the only thing to do was have it painted to match our Coral Spice trim!

@HPMKT did not disappoint! This year felt different in the best way. I am slightly less exhausted and my feet don’t really hurt because we were so efficient in our schedule and planning. Go us!
This market was about sitting on all the things, evaluating scale IRL,connecting with our vendors and reps, learning a few new things and connecting with our design community.
As usual we made a few new friends and travelled with the very best design squad.

You hire a designer for all sorts of reasons and let’s face it we do hold A LOT of value that your new bff Claude can’t provide even if he/she/they tell you we are unneccesary.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. What’s my value? The human element is the value. We have and will happily hold clients’ hands through the entire design process. It’s that simple. And to avoid being dinosaurs, we will invest in the versions of AI that serve to improve some efficiencies behind the scenes. We will look at the silly AI generated images that have become our clients’ new iterations of pinterest boards and use them as information and then we will get back to being creative problem solvers who make spaces beautiful.
At the office design table recently we were talking about pattern play and why some things work together and make sense. When pressed, I really couldn’t give a formula. I came to the conclusion that there really isn’t one and that’s a good thing!!!
Designers know when something works and we know when it doesn’t.

This was a really satisfying Maplewood bathroom reno project. This lovely young family needed a major upgrade. We optimized every inch of the space and solved for all sorts of weird conditions. These changes allowed for improved clearance space around the vanity and a bigger shower. The shower feature wall is the perfect playful balance to this otherwise simple and timeless palette. It’s equal parts groovy and preppy (in the way us elders use the term).
Note the @dominocustoms slippers are mine and are my absolute favorites. She upcycles designer stuff (in this case an hermes scarf) onto things like ugg slippers and birkenstocks.

I have always been a big believer in community. Interior design as a solopreneur can be really isolating. There’s NO WATERCOOLER! Guess what? It doesn’t have to be that way. If you are doing this alone I invite you to become an ASID NJ member. There are several paths to membership and the community we’ve created is really wonderful. I got involved a few years ago when I didn’t believe networking was something that I needed, I was wrong. I stepped up to a leadership position when asked because I began to understand how important it is to be a part of a national organization devoted to our industry. If you’re curious please reach out. A hint of Spring and I am already dreaming of Summer. There is nothing we love more than a beach house. We’ve been lucky enough to do many of them! Both of these projects are nearly 10 years old (maybe more…?) and they remain as lovely now as they were when they were completed. Sure the kids get older but truthfully we’ve only added and tweaked a few things for these clients over the years. At AHR Designs we believe in “Doing it once and doing it right!”

The Mudroom was the last piece of our Summit basement renovation. As the workhorse of the space we needed to call in another expert in function to maximize some tricky conditions.

Our clients needed a mudroom that could hold up to their crew: 3 tween/teen boys who play LOTS of baseball.
As current and former baseball moms ourselves we understood the need to have dedicated storage for each boy that easily accommodated their massive bags and multiple bats. Even more importantly we chose some closed storage because sometimes you need a quick spot to hide the extra stuff or unsightly items. What baseball parent hasn’t found an athletic cup on the counter? 🤢
The center photo display was a creative way to hide a wall condition that disrupted our usable depth. Amy fabricated custom frames in the same material as the built-ins, ensuring a seamless integration with the surrounding millwork.

This Hoboken Brownstone’s Kitchen offered a generous footprint but much of its storage was inaccessible because the cabinets went to the crazy high ceilings. It’s before vibes were very industrial and masculine which wasn’t our clients preference. The open floor plan required that our transformation be in keeping with the rest of the space. At AHR Designs we love a challenge and since we had furnished the whole rest of the Brownstone previously we knew exactly what to do!
The Bluestar range @bluestarcooking was our first decision and it really was the launching point for what was to come. Our clients wanted ample wine storage so we opted for a full height built in Sub Zero @subzeroandwolf wine fridge. Of course we panelled everything and yes it all sits flush and of course we dropped a soffit!!!! The list goes on……
The result is a modern light and bright FUNCTIONAL kitchen that serves this busy family and checks ALL the boxes.

This transformation was off the charts. We addressed the layout, solved for the four different ceiling heights (thank you @rkcad ) and relocated a bar to create this ultimate of all hang pads.
Anything is possible with a great team of creatives, clients who are up for anything and a whole lot of patience (permits are a drag!).
