Yesterday, on my lunch break, I wandered around the @agguelph grounds to check out the art!
From 1994-1972, the building was a school with the University of Guelph, but since then it's been an art gallery.
In 1983, the AGG developed the outdoor space into the Donald Forster Sculpture Park. Today, there are 41 permanent sculptures over 2.5 acres of land around the art gallery.
These are just some of the ones that really caught my eye. I'll have to go back to see more and maybe do a tour of the interior of the building.
Ps. Fun fact: I was supposed to be an illustrator once upon a time and I've started to get back into drawing and painting. I hope to one day have a piece up in this gallery!

Celeste Cares: Eyes Without a Face – on view May 7 – 12.
MFA candidate Celeste Cares' oil paintings are imbued with a sense of dissociation and anxiety, while remaining focused on surface, appearances, and gendered dynamics. In this exhibition, Cares reworks elements of media environments and consumer culture—including television characters, mannequins, kitsch collectibles, and luxury goods—into uncanny psychological portraits.
Visit the AGG and check out her exhibition which marks the culmination of two years of work in the University of Guelph’s Master of Fine Arts program.

The Art Gallery of Guelph is deeply saddened by the loss of artist Jessica Karuhanga. A first-generation Canadian artist of British Ugandan heritage, Jessica explored questions of identity and the complexities of Black diasporic experience through lens-based technologies, sculpture, writing, drawing, and performance.
Jessica’s work was presented by the Art Gallery of Guelph in the exhibition Collective Offerings, curated by Mitra Fakhrashrafi and Vince Rozario in 2021—an exhibition highlighting practices that spoke to collective interdependence and the mitigation of isolation through communities and networks of care. Through this and many other exhibitions, commissions, and public conversations across Canada and internationally, Jessica shared a distinct vision grounded in generosity, inviting audiences to connect on emotional and sensory levels.
Jessica’s life and work will have an enduring impact on contemporary art and the wider arts community. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, colleagues, students, and to the many communities she was part of.
