The most anti-racist city I’ve ever been in; “because south Italians consider themselves brown” someone said. Does one need a lived experienced to develop empathy? Maybe. Or maybe people are either good-hearted or not.
In Palermo people are not angry or passive aggressive. They yell at each other but their tone changes as soon as someone cracks a joke or smiles at them. They don’t lose their patience, they understand and respect foreigners even though they don’t care much for tourists.
Also, I’ve never felt so comfortable with so many men looking at me. Their gaze was kind and respectful, even though they were staring directly at my tits.
Oh yeah, and they clearly hope for a free Palestine 🇵🇸
