It was a trip to Peru that set the tone for @afvandevorst ’s Autumn–Winter 2015–16 collection, now on view in the collection presentation. Drawing on Peruvian textile traditions, @an_vandevorst and @filiparickx removed the colours in keeping with their characteristic fashion language. The silhouette on display, made from floral jacquard in shades of grey, consists of a bustier dress with small accordion pleats. The pattern of the dress continues into thigh-high boots. For this collection, @stephenjonesmillinery shaped fabric into condor-like forms.    Today’s From the Collection revisits the collection and the show that accompanied it. Discover more collection stories at the link in bio. — [1][3][5][7] A.F.Vandevorst, Autumn-Winter 2015-16, MoMu Collection [2] @ronaldstoops [4][6][8][9] @valle_ann

When An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx closed @afvandevorst in 2020, it wasn’t out of failure. It was a conscious decision to protect the integrity of their work. As independent designers, they watched the industry shift: buyers arriving with spreadsheets instead of instincts, small stores crushed by conglomerates, creativity reduced to sales quotas. Rather than bend to those pressures, they chose to step away on their own terms, ending a two-decade journey with the same defiance and conviction that defined their clothes. The duo’s value system inspires and raises a bigger question: in an industry that rewards scale over soul, what does it really mean to “succeed”? Head to the link in bio to read the story behind the iconic Belgian brand, now featured in Brussel’s Fashion & Lace Museum exhibition celebrating @stijlbrussels . ✍️ @wonnescrayen

Scans from A.F. Vandevorst’s (@afvandevorst ) Reference Materials Presented exclusively in FORM Times Drawn directly from the private reference volumes of An Vandevorst (@an_vandevorst ) and Filip Arickx (@filiparickx ), this selection offers a rare glimpse into the constellation of art and imagery that shaped their practice. At its core is Joseph Beuys, whose symbolic vocabulary — the red cross, felt, the merging of body and ritual — resonated deeply with A.F. Vandevorst’s explorations of uniform, intimacy, and protection. Rather than serving as mere inspiration, these references became a working lexicon: a set of images and ideas to be returned to, reinterpreted, and ultimately absorbed into the fabric of their collections. Through this lens, the act of referencing itself emerges as a creative gesture — a way of preserving the aura of cultural figures while reframing their meanings in a new medium. Published in FORM Times, these scans reveal how the designers’ private study of Beuys and other influences became part of a broader continuum, binding fashion to art history in a dialogue that is both intimate and enduring. Featured Works 1. Die Aktion “Coyote” by Caroline Tisdall, Galerie René Block, New York, 1974 2. Joseph Beuys by Lord Snowdon for British Vogue, London, 1985 3. A.F. Vandevorst Fall/Winter 1999 by Jean-François Carly and Marleen Daniels 4. A.F. Vandevorst Spring/Summer 2002 by Marcel Gruyaert FORM Times available for pre-order at form.space
