Vintage Vinyl Series: UK 2-Step Garage
SWIPE FOR FULL STORY >>>>
Before the world got crazy with Afro,
the pulse of Black African polyrhythm was already creeping into UK’s underground —
syncopated beats, swung drums, deep basslines.
That sound? UK Garage.
And this was its 2-step heartbeat.
This never-released 30-min mix (circa early 2000s) captures that raw moment — soulful, broken, bass-heavy. So we posted it on Mixcloud for all you lucky musically inclined people we love so much ✨ Mix link is in bio!
Strictly vinyl. No digital tricks. No sync button. 100% wax.
One take. All vibe.
Rewind to remind.

Quick musical lexicon for music lovers
#jam:
Live musicians creating improvised grooves and melodies together. They might reinterpret known tracks or start from scratch. The result, chaotic or beautiful, depends on the players' skill, collaboration, and chemistry. D'Angelo's album Voodoo, for instance, was born from years of jamming with a plethora of talented musicians, lead by @questlove at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady studio.
Jam = Live Musicians.
#TVTrack:
In DJ culture, this is a version of a song without its lead vocal (backing vocals remain). It has two purposes, 1) allows artists to perform "semi-live" on TV without a full band, so they sing live without clashing with their original lead vocal. 2) DJ to be creative during their set.
This makes jamming with a DJ a unique challenge. Instrumentalists must blend with the DJ's pre-recorded tracks without overwhelming the song's original structure and vocals. Jams are not rehearsed, only loosely structured.
With that in mind, please enjoy this magical moment which occurred yesterday during our tribute event for D'Angelo.
DJ: Eric Soul

I’m happy to share Part 2 of the EricSoul Vintage Vinyl Series.
After our trip into UK 2-Step Garage Soul, here’s something special, a Hip-Hop Soul strictly vinyl mix from the golden era.
For some, it’s a rewind to cherished memories. For others, it’s a first-time discovery of a sound and a vibe that shaped a whole era.
Sweet R&B vocals meet gritty boom bap, with gems from Carl Thomas, Aaliyah, Donell Jones, DJ Premier & Rakim, Bad Boy classics, Timbaland grooves, and even a touch of Eminem.
No edits. No polish. No digital tricks.
No auto-sync. No pre-recorded sets. No copy-paste.
It’s live. It’s raw. It’s one take.
🎶 Enjoy the ride. Link in Bio

A visual representation of 'The Original vs. The Colonized Version.
@koketsokhunong : The Blueprint. Effortless style, melanin, sexy, sassy, and rhythmic perfection. The music is her culture; the interpretation is second nature. 10/10 face card and zero misses.
@shelbymorrisseau : The Parody. Awkward facials, pure cringe, and weaponized 'goofiness' used to mask the theft. Or was it suppose to be just a bit of "fun" for "her followers community?" Does she even know who Lil’ Kim is? It’s the caucasity for me. She knew exactly whose performance she was biting, down to the last hit. Save the white tears and fake apology.
Credit the original please.
Here’s a revolutionary suggestion: since she probably spend a few hours learning the steps to copy it, crediting the original inspiration would have taken 2.35 seconds and actually shown a shred of respect, appreciation, cultural connection, and humility.
