It was a memorable night filled with amazing performances, incredible fashion, and beautiful people, as we explored different eras of clothing. We appreciate your support and for taking time out of your busy schedules to celebrate the intersection of clothing, culture, and art with us, bringing Black History Month to an amazing close. Black History Fact: Day 5!
The No. 2 Construction Battalion was the only all-Black battalion in Canadian military history during WWI. Formed in 1916, they served with resilience and pride despite facing discrimination. Their legacy lives on!

In 1946, Viola Desmond challenged racial segregation in Nova Scotia by refusing to leave a whites-only section of a theatre. Today, she is honored on the Canadian $10 bill for her courage and lasting impact on civil rights in Canada.

Dr. Howard D. McCurdy was a University of Windsor professor and one of the first Black Canadians elected to Parliament. His leadership in education, civil rights, and public service continues to leave a lasting impact, especially right here in Windsor!

Black History Fact: Day 2!
In 1853, Mary Ann Shadd Cary became the first Black woman publisher in North America when she founded The Provincial Freeman in Windsor, Ontario. Through her work, she advocated for abolition, education, and the empowerment of Black communities leaving a powerful legacy right here in Windsor!

In 1968, Lincoln Alexander made history as the first Black person elected to Canada’s House of Commons. He later became Ontario’s first Black Lieutenant Governor continuing to break barriers and inspire generations.
