It's been a moment without sharing my progress. The symbol represented on the clothes is known as a pet name symbol from my tribe Banyoro and it's called Atwooki (shining star). I'm sharing my current experiments with dyed cotton fabric from which I made two pairs of trousers and these are blues and browns. On the other hand the shirts were canvas materials that I found interesting in Owino market, more experiments shall be shared later on.

AFRIQUE NOIRE FEATURE
IN FRAME WITH MURUNGI
I'm Murungi Kevin, an artist based in Kampala Uganda. I archive Ugandan culture through clothing because of my mother who is a seamstress. I grew up seeing my mother make cloth from Kitenge and this inspired me to think about the future of African fabric hence starting the clothing brand Afro Muru. I would love to push my brand to bigger heights and that's why I c out for support from any person or organization that can feed into my vision. I would like to thank @afriquenoiremagazine for initiating this call.

The Atwooki collection is honestly of much value to us and it pushes us to explore through different silhouettes. Most of these clothes are ideas that we have seen in real life. I think about the relevancy of this work in terms of influencing Ugandan design. The pieces created include a side button shirt, a throw on with buttons, a shirt vest, balloon pants, a mid-size kimono, a round skirt, free pair of pants, a wrap skirt and ¾ pants. All of these pieces are created as one of one and this is due to the sourcing of second-hand fabrics. Upcycling these fabrics is a core in our fashion practice. The pieces shall be available for purchase after our upcoming show in February.
THE ATWOOKI BAG
The Atwooki bag is created for durability from Cotton Canvas sourced in Owino market. The material can withstand a lot of rough situations. It has two sets of straps for different handling. We attached a printed lining inspired by the Karamoja motifs created earlier. This shows the continuity in our different works.
Functional details:
Length - 22” * 24”
Straps – 12”
Cotton lining with 3 pocket slots.
PRICE - UGX 130,000/= without shipping fees

We continue on our quest of exploring clothing narratives from different parts of this globe. This time round we recreate the basic shirt to a crop shirt according to our own artistic sight. The shirt has long sleeves and a short length for which the hem is slightly higher than the usual shirts. The kimono shirt is a simplified representation cut of our staple piece, the long heavy kimono. The difference is that it doesn’t have an inside lining material which makes it lighter. A sleeveless jacket was also thought of again and this is a piece revamped from our first collection. It contains a cotton flourish lining collected from Owino market. Lastly, we’ve introduced a big tote bag to the product list of Afro Muru. For which the bag is meant for some heavy work and it contains two sets of straps for better use. The lining was printed also in house for unique reasons.
The clothes were created from gray and army green discarded material sourced from Owino market. The idea of recycling fascinates us and we keep on finding ways of best representing the art scene beyond the aesthetics. These clothes shall be recreated all year round, as we keep on creating our limited-edition clothes. Thanks for the support always, we appreciate everyone standing with us.

Our past will always be presented in our present. The memories we have now say it all. We're all loved, just that some will be loved more.
Hope we all get a chance to be loved like a tailor loves their sewing machine
