"The bold and fierce words of Palestinian poet Suheir Hamad grace the groove laid down by broken beat maestro Afronaut on the amazing 'Eye Will Not', a resistance war chant in music.
Since a few days the tune and the remixes are available at Afronaut bandcamp, for anybody who wants it to play out loud.

Suheir Hammad is a Palestinian-American poet and activist. She was born to refugees in Jordan and immigrated to Brooklyn. The poem “What I Will” was written in 2005 in response to the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and it's unfortunately still so relevant right now." andrea di maggio @jazzrefound@butterphoenix@afro0uk

What I Will
by Suheir Hammad
I will not
dance to your war drum.
I will not lend my soul nor my bones to your war drum.
I will not dance to your beating. I know that beat.
It is lifeless.
I know intimately that skin you are hitting.
It was alive once hunted stolen stretched.
I will not dance to your drummed up war.
I will not pop spin break for you.
I will not hate for you or even hate you.
I will not kill for you. Especially
I will not die for you.
I will not mourn the dead with murder nor suicide.
I will not side with you nor dance to bombs
because everyone else is dancing.
Everyone can be wrong. Life is a right not collateral or casual.
I will not forget where I come from.
I will craft my own drum.
Gather my beloved near and our chanting will be dancing.
Our humming will be drumming. I will not be played.
I will not lend my name nor my rhythm to your beat.
I will dance and resist and dance and persist and dance.
This heartbeat is louder than
death.
Your war drum ain’t louder than this
breath.

I've said it before and will say it again and again.
Nothing... Absolutely nothing in this world, is more anti semitic than zionism itself. A racist political ideology and fascist death cult. The true and only real axis of evil and penultimate product of the Talmud.

The 5th Annual Phil Asher Tribute last night was pure love, inter generational vibes and a message to all haters when black & white, all shades unite against the right wing bigotry in the country. COMMUNITY now in its 19th year makes no apologies about its politics and anti - colonial sentiments. We played alot of conscious poetry, our never ending support for those suffering and soulful stories. We can’t thank the master selectors The Mighty Zaf, Afronaut and Craig Smith enough. What a killer yet super wide array of rootsy dance music. Roll on to next year. Community returns to The Peer Hat on Saturday March 14th with South Africa DJ WUNDER & Co. Get the date in your diary.
Community Phil Asher Tribute this Saturday at Soup with special guest and another of Phlash’s close friends / music ambassador traveling down from Edinburgh is DJ / music producer @craigsmith_67 :)
Craig is one of the top House music DJs in the world. We are talking about real House music going back to Chicago & New York in the 80s all the way up today’s deep spiritual, tribal and jazz led grooves. His sets at the Southport weekender going back 2 decades are deeply loved. His music taste is very refined in House, Disco, Boogie, Broken Beat, Hip Hop, Soul & Jazz. He represents the top old school music generation of dance music that stayed true to the underground sound. His new party ‘ Feel The Real ‘ in Edinburgh further consolidates his legacy in our music scene.
We are from 11pm - 4am, with Craig, Afronaut, The Mighty Zaf & @irfanrainy and tickets are £8/ £9 on RA / Skiddle ( link in bio above ) or pay £12 on the door. Plan ahead people for our annual first party of 2026. #philashersrestlesssoul #westlondon #dj #legacy #manchester
Community annual tribute to @phlashinghton aka Phil Asher takes place this Saturday Feb 14th @soup_manchester & it’s a final week reminder for all of you & THE coolest party in the rainy city this weekend.
This is the 5th tribute to the legendary London DJ ‘Phlash ‘ who performed at the first ever Community party almost 19 years ago and he was a significant player in Broken Beat music. His v close friend and fellow instigator / creator of Broken Beat is @afro0uk aka Orin Walters aka Bugz In Da Attic will be joining us to DJ at the party.
Afronaut is one of the sickest producers of Broken Beat on this planet and his mix of @donkamares ‘ Batié ‘ with @markforce was rated as one of our fave broken beat tracks of last year. His back catalogue is also amongst the top level of this sound in history.
We have 5 early bird £8 tickets left on Skiddle, and have just added a few more on RA. Alternatively you can pay £12 on the door. Get ready people. #community #manchester #philasher #brokenbeat
