Artificial Intelligence is shifting the future of education, and universities across Africa are beginning to act. Through our joint study with WISE, The Education Collaborative at Ashesi University, and UM6P, we engaged nearly 4,000 stakeholders across 47 institutions to understand how AI is being used to strengthen learning, streamline operations, and prepare students for the future of work. The findings show a sector that is moving forward, but not at the same pace. Adoption is growing, yet readiness, infrastructure, and policy remain uneven. This moment presents both a challenge and a powerful opportunity. With the right strategies, African universities can shape models of innovation that respond to local needs and inspire global learning systems. As AfriLabs, we continue to connect higher education with the innovators and ecosystems driving this transformation. Explore the report and see what the evidence reveals about the next chapter of Africa’s education journey. For years, the global tech scene obsessed over "Unicorns" (billion-dollar valuations). But in the current economic climate, a new animal is king in Africa. 🐫 The Camel. A Camel is a startup built for survival, profitability, and resilience. It can survive long droughts (funding winters) by managing its water (cash reserves) carefully. In African markets, where currency fluctuations and funding gaps are real realities, the "growth at all costs" Unicorn model is often too risky. The Camel prioritizes sustainable growth over hype. It might not be as glamorous as a magical horse, but it gets across the desert. #AfriLabsJargonBuster #Resilience #AfricanBusiness #Startups

The fear of job displacement and the "erosion of human agency" are real concerns in the digital economy. However, the path forward isn't to stop AI. The real path is to ensure a "Human-Centered" approach. The study recommends: - Prioritizing a Pan-African approach to rulemaking to compete in the global geopolitical complex. - Ensuring "Human in the Loop" policies to mitigate risks and ensure technology serves human well-being. - Transparency and Accountability as the foundational principles for every public-private governance model. Africa is playing a central role in the global AI supply chain. Let's make sure it's on our terms. Read more in our publications, “AI Ethical Policy in Africa”. Link in our bio. #AfriLabs #AI

🌍 Last month, our Executive Director Anna Ekeledo represented AfriLabs at Skoll World Forum 2026 in Oxford, joining global leaders at the intersection of impact, investment, and systems change. Across two sessions, she brought what AfriLabs has always brought to these rooms: ground-level evidence, continental conviction, and a clear position on where capital must flow to deliver real outcomes. The world is deepening its understanding of proximate capital. AfriLabs has been building the ecosystems that prove its power for over a decade across 528+ innovation hubs spanning the continent. We go to these tables as leaders with a lot to say about the African Innovation ecosystem and the track record to back it. It was a strong week in Oxford. The work continues. #SkollWorldForum #SkollWeek2026 #AfriLabs #ImpactInvesting

Research suggests co-founder conflict is one of the leading causes of startup failure, especially in high-growth startups. 🚩 Red Flag Check: What is the one non-negotiable trait you look for in a co-founder? Is it shared vision? Complementary skills? Or just someone who handles stress well? Tag your co-founder and tell them why you picked them (or what they do that drives you crazy 😉). #FoundersFix #CoFounders #TeamBuilding #StartupGovernance

Countries like Mauritius, Egypt, and Rwanda are already leading the way with comprehensive AI strategies designed to drive inclusive growth. But progress on paper doesn’t always translate to progress on the ground. Our latest research highlights five critical barriers slowing AI policy adoption across Africa: 🔹 Limited practical understanding of how AI systems work 🔹 Funding gaps for homegrown research & innovation 🔹 Scarcity of high-quality, locally relevant data 🔹 Infrastructure gaps (reliable internet & power) 🔹 Shortage of specialized technical talent Policy alone won’t bridge the gap. What Africa needs is an AI ecosystem built for its unique context, priorities, and innovators. #EthicalAI #AfricanInnovation #TechPolicy #AfriLabs #AIinAfrica #FutureOfWork
