In my fireside chat with @jennifermairo at AFRIFF, I spoke about what happens when our filmmakers begin to carry themselves with the kind of audacity Burna Boy showed when he said, “Put my name in bigger capitals on that flyer or I am not showing up for Coachella.”
When we have that confidence, we stop operating from fear and start operating at the highest level of excellence. We take what is already good and push it to the point where it becomes undeniable.
This is the energy our industry needs. This is how we build something that lasts.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s AFRIFF, our guests, panelists, Jury, filmmakers, festival participants, and every creator who trusted us enough to screen their films. Your presence and contributions made this year’s festival truly special.
We’re especially proud of the growth we saw in the Content & Film Market this year. It was a major highlight- diverse, inclusive, and full of real opportunities. We hope it opened doors for emerging filmmakers, created new collaborations, and sparked ideas that will shape the future of African storytelling.
Thank you for being part of AFRIFF 2025. We’re already looking forward to welcoming you back. Next year promises to be even bigger, stronger, and more inspiring.
See you in 2026!

And the winner of Best Short Film… The Day the Heart Died, directed by @russelloru
A powerful reflection on a silence too many have learned to live with female genital mutilation.
Through stillness and subtlety, the film gives voice to what is often unspoken, allowing truth to linger where words cannot.
Thank you for sharing this insightful story with AFRIFF and the world at large!!
