We are proud to lead, proud to represent, and proud to open doors. Today, we celebrate a defining moment for AFRIFF; taking our filmmakers from Lagos to Cannes, from Africa to the global stage. As the first to do this at this scale, we carry our stories, talent, and the spirit of a thriving industry ready to be seen. Being a flag bearer for our country is both an honour and a responsibility. This is about visibility and opportunity. This is about placing Nigerian and African cinema exactly where it belongs: at the centre of global conversation. The journey continues. AFRIFF to the world. Join us May 16th at Marché du Cannes, Pavilion 1 as we make history.

In my fireside chat with @jennifermairo at AFRIFF, I spoke about what happens when our filmmakers begin to carry themselves with the kind of audacity Burna Boy showed when he said, “Put my name in bigger capitals on that flyer or I am not showing up for Coachella.” When we have that confidence, we stop operating from fear and start operating at the highest level of excellence. We take what is already good and push it to the point where it becomes undeniable. This is the energy our industry needs. This is how we build something that lasts.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s AFRIFF, our guests, panelists, Jury, filmmakers, festival participants, and every creator who trusted us enough to screen their films. Your presence and contributions made this year’s festival truly special. We’re especially proud of the growth we saw in the Content & Film Market this year. It was a major highlight- diverse, inclusive, and full of real opportunities. We hope it opened doors for emerging filmmakers, created new collaborations, and sparked ideas that will shape the future of African storytelling. Thank you for being part of AFRIFF 2025. We’re already looking forward to welcoming you back. Next year promises to be even bigger, stronger, and more inspiring. See you in 2026! #AFRIFF2025 #AFCM2025 #BrazilMeetsAfrica #FilmBusiness #CreativeEconomy #MadeInAfrica

The Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Film goes to… “Eyes of Ghana!” This powerful documentary follows the story of the official cinematographer of Ghana’s former president, Kwame Nkrumah, capturing history through a lens of dedication and courage. True to its tagline, “Keep on Filming,” the film reminds us of the importance of bearing witness. A night to remember for Eyes of Ghana, earning its second award of the evening at the AFRIFF Globe Awards 2025. #AFRIFF2025 #AFCM2025 #BrazilMeetsAfrica #FilmBusiness #CreativeEconomy #MadeInAfrica

And the winner of Best Short Film… The Day the Heart Died, directed by @russelloru A powerful reflection on a silence too many have learned to live with female genital mutilation. Through stillness and subtlety, the film gives voice to what is often unspoken, allowing truth to linger where words cannot. Thank you for sharing this insightful story with AFRIFF and the world at large!! #AFRIFF2025 #AFCM2025 #BrazilMeetsAfrica #FilmBusiness #CreativeEconomy #MadeInAfrica
