We are Team Sam Project (TSP) and we are so excited to be in The Speed Project 2024 (TSP)! We are a team made up of prepared runners, a resilient crew, with an air-tight plan. But the bedrock of our team won’t be in the van with us. Our friend Sam Norton was an inspiration. He was the friend who called those around him to rise beyond the expectations they had of themselves. Sam tragically passed away at mile 23 of the Santa Rosa marathon this past August while trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon. From the moment he came across The Speed Project, he was obsessed. Every aspect of this truly unique event aligns with the foundational tenets of how our friend lived his life from the challenge, competition, and especially the comradery. He applied for TSP and started quietly (and not so quietly) preparing. After months of waiting, his application was accepted. 3 days after his funeral. Now, in typical Sam fashion, he is daring each member of this team to step out of their comfort zone and become the teammates, become the people, he saw in us. We are honored to be running under the banner of a truly noble cause that was very close to Sam’s heart, The Herren Project. Sam witnessed the struggle with addiction through his father and found a group that perfectly embodies this same goal of supporting others through a “together we’re stronger in the fight” mantra in The Herren Project. He was a fierce supporter of their mission to meet people wherever they are on their wellness journey with free resources and support for the treatment, recovery, and prevention of substance use disorder. It is this shared foundational aspect of both Sam and The Herren Project, supporting others in their quest to be better than themselves, that we are carrying through the desert with us. We are honored to commemorate and celebrate the life of our dear friend Sam Norton while raising awareness of the great work being done by The Herren Project. Please consider donating at link in bio. 📸 @rbg212
