OUT NOW: ‘Mohey Apne Hi Rung (Colour Me In Your Love)’ exclusively on YouTube & Bandcamp.
Written by the 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusrau, Rung is one of the most beloved kalaams in the Qawwali tradition. It is said that after meeting his spiritual master, the great Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, Khusrau returned home in a state of ecstasy and described this overwhelming feeling to his mother and composed this piece.
This sense of Rung or Colour — in Sufi poetry represents a state of spiritual transformation, where the seeker is immersed in the presence of the beloved. In this kalaam, it reflects a moment of pure joy and illumination.
