INDIGENOUS ROUND 🖤💛❤️
Indigenous Round honours the significant contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to football and netball. It acknowledges the enduring connection between local sport and Indigenous Australia, while celebrating cultural strength and community.
At North Shore Football & Netball Club, we are incredibly proud to be the only club in the GFL and wider Geelong region that wears Indigenous-designed netball dresses every single week of the season. This apparel features artwork by Kailee-Jade Kennedy, a Wadawarrung woman and our inaugural Indigenous Art Scholarship winner. Kailee’s design tells the story of the turtle’s journey to the traditional lands of First Nations people.
This year, we are especially proud to highlight a significant milestone for our club. Pictured here in our dresses are four of our E Grade netballers - all proud Aboriginal women playing together in the same team:
Jas Knox – Yamatji & Badimaya woman
Bridie Weir – Djadjawurrung woman
Nat & Stephi Murphy – Wadawarrung sisters
Seeing these four in one netball team is a source of immense pride for our club. Representation matters. These strong women are role models for young kids in the northern suburbs, showing them that culture is celebrated and that they can lead and represent their identities through sport.
We are honoured to have Jas, Bridie, Nat & Stephi as part of our club. Today and every day, we celebrate the history and culture of the traditional owners of the land on which we play, the Wadawarrung people.
