260 bones is based on family ritual with my father: Breaking the chicken breast bone after eating soup. When I met my family in Kyrgyzstan for the first time after 22 years, I realized how much time I had missed with this part of my relatives and with that, a part of my identity. The 260 hand shaped clay bones, embody each missed month, each missed ritual. I have transformed the ritual of breaking into the ritual of creating, in order to visualize lost time, family connection, and the feeling of home within a space reminiscent of my family’s dining room in Kyrgyzstan.
