#Road2AfDBAM2026 #AfDBAM2026

Not long ago, flying across the airspace of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be challenging. Today, that is no longer the case. The quality of operations at N’djili, the country’s principal airport and gateway to the capital, now matches that of major African hubs. The transformation has been driven by the Priority Aviation Safety Project (PPSA II in French), which is backed by approximately $105 million in financing from the African Development Bank Group, in partnership with the government of the #DRC. The project’s impact extends beyond renovated runways and new control tower equipment. By enhancing aviation safety, PPSA II is helping to stimulate local economies through increased traffic and more reliable routes. Congolese businesses are benefitting from more efficient logistics, while communities across the country are gaining better access to emergency medical transport and other essential services. The African Development Bank Group and fellow Multilateral Development Banks (#MDBs) have issued a “Joint Statement on #CriticalMinerals to Manufacturing Value Chains”, committing to closer collaboration through a Joint Collaboration Framework. The framework focuses on three priority areas: strengthening policy and governance, developing integrated infrastructure and corridor-based approaches, and mobilising capital for private sector investment. Together, the MDBs will work with governments, the private sector and communities to foster transparent, standards-based markets and add value beyond extraction. At its core, the initiative aims to ensure that critical minerals translate into lasting economic transformation for developing countries.
