“Take a walk at night. Walk so silently that the bottom of your feet become ears.” — Pauline Oliveros, Sonic Meditation V (1974)
On March 28th, we walked into the bunker beneath Yppenplatz and listened. With skin, bones, breath. We recorded the walls. We whispered to water.
Together with @initiative_erinnern_in_zukunft and the Shhh… community. This is what collective listening looks and sounds like.
next dates:18.4./ 25.4./ 2.5., always 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Closing event of the Applied/Experimental Sound Research Lab
On 23 April 2026, from 14:00 to 19:30H, the ÆSR Lab at Rustenschacherallee 2, 1020 Vienna, will present key findings from three years of applied and experimental sound research – featuring open labs, artistic contributions, a sound walk and a panel discussion.
About the ÆSR Lab
The ÆSR Lab (Applied/Experimental Sound Research Lab) is a modular sound research laboratory at the interface between art and science. As an infrastructure equipped with precision instruments and state-of-the-art technology, it promotes interdisciplinary research and artistic creation and supports the development and testing of new technologies. The ÆSR Lab has been realised over the past three years by the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Support Art and Research) in cooperation with the Artistic Research Center (ARC), the Institute for Composition, Electroacoustics and Sound Engineering (IKE) at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the Phonogram Archive of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
The public closing event “ÆSR Outcomes” offers insights into current artistic productions and research findings, an opportunity to test and listen to various technologies, a search for “sonic ghosts”, and an open discussion on further use and integration into local networks.
Programme on 23 April (14:00 to 19:30H):
from 14:00H: Open Labs – Material & Restoration / Mobile Lab / Listening Stations
15:00 - 16:00H Presentations: “Sonic Art. Sound as Material in Artistic Practice”
16:00-17:00H Sound Walk: “Ghost Hunt” with Angélica Castelló
17:30–19:00H Open discussion: Sound (art) research in institutions and communities
19:00–19:30H Presentation: Wave field synthesis
Where: Rustenschacherallee 2, 1020 Vienna
Admission is free and no registration is required.
The event will be held in German.

UNDERCURRENTS — What Waters Remember
Listening Procession and Collective Sonic Ritual
Fr 8.5., 4.30-8pm
What does the memory of water sound like? The artistic project ‘Undercurrents — What Water Remembers’ explores the city’s waters as resonant spaces of remembrance. The project emerges from the co-creative workshop series ‘Shhh… Listening with Waters’ (October 2025 – May 2026). Rooted in Deep Listening as a political practice, the artistic team — Çiğdem Borucu, Graziele Sena da Silva, Susana Ojeda, and Zuzana Ernst — together with participants, explores water as a carrier of memory, knowledge, and movement. The site-specific focus lies in Vienna’s Brunnenviertel.
The artistic work invites participants to attune to invisible underground currents that connect us to the greater water being. In collective listening sessions, voices, sounds, and stories of the neighborhood are gathered — from the market to hidden waterways and the bunker beneath Yppenplatz. These fragments flow into a growing Listening Archive and form the basis of a site-specific sound composition that brings the unheard to the surface.
The public listening procession and sonic ritual on May 8, 2026, leads across Brunnenmarkt across Yppenplatz toward the ‘waters that remember’. As an Anti-Fascist Day of Remembrance, it marks a gesture of vigilance against erasure. ‘Undercurrents’ understands collective listening to subterranean currents and concealed histories as a shield against authoritarian narratives and as an invitation to perceive memory as a living, relational process.

✨ Thank you, Yuri ✨
We’re grateful to Yuri Tuma (@ytuma ) for guiding us through a thoughtful and inspiring course, and to all participants for their engaged presence throughout. 🎧🌿
Together, participants explored how listening can shape the understanding of planetary connections — from urban soundscapes to interspecies communication. Through theory, artistic practice and shared discussions, the course opened up new ways of thinking about sound and ecology.
Thank you, Yuri, for creating a space that invited reflection, exchange, and curiosity.
And thanks to everyone who joined and contributed to this experience.
