Double-Blind Listening – Object-Based Immersive Encoder Comparison Date & Time: Friday, November 14, 5:00–8:00 PM (Doors open at 4:30PM) Location: Engine Room Audio, 42 Broadway, 22nd Floor, New York, NY Description: Building a high-fidelity low bit-rate delivery system for streaming immersive music poses significant perceptual and technical challenges. The majority of consumers currently listening to immersive music are hearing the lossy format Dolby Digital Plus with Joint Object Coding (DD+JOC), which has the advantage of backwards compatibility. A newer, non-backwards compatible codec referred to as Dolby Audio Coding Level 4 (AC-4) has become available for commercial deployment and is designed with the intention of achieving higher fidelity than DD+JOC. This event will feature a double-blind listening test that puts lossless 7.1.4 up against DD+JOC and AC-4 on a high-quality professional playback system. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose listening material, and solo speaker channels. There will be a short technical discussion from software engineers familiar with these codecs. Food and refreshments will be served. If you are attending and want to submit an ADM for inclusion in the listening shootout, contact Nathaniel Reichman by November 11th at [email protected]. #aes #dolbyatmos #immersivesound #shootout

Join AES NY Section for another great in-person (and Facebook Live) event at Eastside Sound, deep diving into its new renovations, including the addition of a new Harrison console, and the custom workflow that includes two-inch tape machine networked via Dante to the console to a digital audio workstation. Welcome to cost-effective analog tape recording! Hosted by founder and engineer Lou Holtzman, as well as the new owners of the studio, Andres and Nicolas Pollaks.
