An op-ed by @ScottGottliebMD , a senior fellow at the @AEI : This month, President Donald Trump struck a delicate balance of promoting the development of these compounds as a genuine treatment for serious mental illness while maintaining critical oversight. A growing body of evidence indicates psychedelics can help treat serious conditions such as treatment-resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, even as some advocates of these therapies want to establish a principle that consumers, not regulators, should decide which substances are beneficial. 🔗 Visit the link in @PostOpinions 's bio to read more.

The framers of the Constitution intended for the House of Representatives to regularly expand as the population grew, but that has not happened for over 100 years. “It's just a way to restore the logic of the system,” said Yuval Levin of AEI, who supports expanding the House by 150 members. “Growing the House is not a silver bullet, but it's part of a larger effort to help Congress help itself.” Check out the interview on PBS, YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts.

Yuval Levin says by centralizing power, Newt Gingrich didn’t just reshape Congress—he weakened it, turning lawmakers into loyalists and the speaker akin to a prime minister. “The idea that the speaker should function as a kind of prime minister, that he should be able to wield Congress as a weapon against the president of the other party, ended up meaning that the rest of the members of Congress look to party leaders for direction.” “In many ways this would be James Madison's nightmare,” said Jeffrey Rosen, CEO emeritus of the National Constitution Center.
