#artvsartist2022 this year felt like a blur but, as always, immensely grateful for all the creative opportunities + cool ppl i’ve gotten to work with! while the year started off exciting, the second half kicked my ass ngl. the burnout was real - i urgently decided that the stress wasn’t worth it and pivoted. it’s been a minute since i’ve drawn for myself and i’m finally in a position where i can do so comfortably...i’m really the happiest when i’m creating.

introducing another design with @everpresshq for #AAPIHM 🌞🇵🇭
“sapat ka” translates to “you’re enough.” the message is written on the fan, framing the illustration along with my birth flower, the snowdrop. this piece is about healing and represents protecting my inner child—validating who she is despite falling into cultural assimilation in order to fit in and feel remotely understood; trying to navigate my diasporic identity. i’m also reminded of moments when my mother and grandmother would comb my hair during the times i was overwhelmed or upset. even when they didn’t have the words to say, the simple gesture was their love language to assure that they were listening.
every day, especially during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, i choose to celebrate my background as a Filipina-American, the women in my family, and my inner child.
