The signs in New Zealand when hiking are only slightly terrified! Not super fun when a group is coming at you while you are on the bridge 😂

Have you ever rented a car where you had to drive on the opposite side of the road then you are used to?
We traveled to Ireland with my in-laws last October and rented a car. None of us had driven on the opposite side of the road before or roads that narrow. By the end of the 10 days we did much better but that first few days was a lot of screaming, yelling and reminding the driver “OPPOSITE SIDE”.
The narrow roads weren’t as big of an issue for us as we stuck to the main roadways most of the time but occasionally we ran into a very tiny road and made passing nearly impossible! On a side note, if you are planning on renting a car in Ireland and don’t want to pay for extra insurance they will put a €5,000 hold on your card. Most insurance that comes with premium credit cards do NOT cover Ireland!
Here are some tips if you plan on driving in Ireland:
1. Try to get a small-ish car. The larger the car the harder those narrow roads will be to navigate!
2. We found it helpful to have the navigation up on the screen for the driver so they would have a visual of what way they planned to turn.
3. Avoid city driving as much as possible. In Belfast and Dublin, we parked the car and did not move it the entire time we were there. That made it much less stressful! Bigger cities have public transit so take advantage!
4. The more you drive the more comfortable you will be with doing the opposite of what you are used to!
5. If you are a passenger don’t distract the driver 🤣 I shouldn’t need to say that in general but here we are!
6. If you are renting a car, make sure to take your own videos and send them to the car rental email they give you so they can’t charge you for damage that was already there!
7. They have rolls in Ireland. Every one we went to took tap credit card!

Places to visit before they blow up 🌍✨
I’m always chasing destinations that still feel authentic — places where the infrastructure is good enough to explore comfortably, but the experience hasn’t been polished into something unrecognizable. These five hit that sweet spot perfectly.
Nicaragua — Volcano boarding, colonial architecture, and crater lakes without the Costa Rica price tag
Philippines — 7,600 islands means endless variety from limestone cliffs to rice terraces, and island-hopping that’s actually affordable
Mongolia — Real nomadic families, Gobi Desert landscapes, and night skies so packed with stars they look fake
Balkans — Stunning coastlines, layered history, mountain trails, and food that’ll ruin you for bland travel meals. All incredibly accessible.
Namibia — Dunes taller than buildings, genuine wilderness (40% protected land), and self-drive adventures across landscapes that feel like another planet
Each one offers something you can’t find anywhere else, and they’re all at that perfect moment where you can still have authentic experiences. Which one’s calling to you?
Swipe through for why I’m prioritizing each one ➡️

things I’ve stopped doing when I travel that have saved us thousands of dollars over the years!
Eating at a sitdown restaurant every night of every single day of the trip those cost add up really fast and I truly enjoy street food as well as browsing through local grocery stores.
Not using public transportation, growing up in a place that had no public transportation. It was always really daunting to me, but now we use it all the time when we travel and save so much money.
Overpacking all we now take is a personal item plus our carry-on backpacks. I have not brought a large Tech bag since 2017 and I never plan on going back. The cost is not only for the airlines but shuttles and car expenses and if you want to store your luggage all adds up the bigger luggage.
I have stopped using Verizon when we travel abroad unless a very specific situation calls for it because it’s so expensive. I buy my phones out right now and use eSIM in order to get data in countries.
And finally paying for every activity the best thing you can do is literally google free things to do plus the city you’re visiting and a lot of of them are parks or hikes or overlook, but that gives you time and the ability to do something without hurting your Wallet.

Here are the rules I follow in my 30s after traveling in my 20s.
1. The two night rule! We do not stay anyone for less than two nights unless absolutely necessary this gives us time to recover and truly enjoy the place we are!
2. If we are traveling for 16+ hours we get a transfer from the airport to the hotel pre booked. Trust me your brain is completely fried after traveling so long it is beyond helpful to have someone ready to drive you to your hotel.
3. Public transport is your friend use it! After the initial arrival figure out public transit! I know it can seem intimidating but it will save so much money.
4. I don’t pack for new outfits every day. I used to believe that I needed a new outfit every single day for the entire trip. I do not prescribe to that anymore. I bring a a capsule wardrobe in which I do wash on longer trips tho save space as well as decision, fatigue.
5. If the flight it 9+ hours or a red eye I am paying to pick my seat. I can’t afford to fly in business or even premium plus so what I do for long flights is making sure I get to pick my seat.

Whether you’re a carry-on only traveler or a chronic over-packer, these 5 travel essentials are the “secret sauce” to a stress-free trip. ✈️🌍
I never leave home without these specific game-changers:
Packable Grocery Bag: Perfect for unexpected souvenir hauls or local market runs. It takes up zero space! 🛍️
Steam Eye Masks: The ultimate hack for sleeping on planes. They warm up instantly and melt away flight anxiety. ☁️
Deodorant Wipes: For those 12+ hour travel days when you need a quick refresh but can’t get to a shower. 🧼
JLab Noise Cancelling Earbuds: High-quality silence without the “bulky over-ear” price tag or space suck. 🎧
Pocket Pharmacy: A tiny DIY kit with my must-have meds (advil, digestive tabs, etc.) so I’m never hunting for a drugstore in a foreign country. 💊
This is why getting off the beaten tourist path is so important.
this was an experience, unlike any other we had while traveling in Japan we ventured off of the detour streets by about half a mile and came across the steakhouse. When we went inside, it looked like someone’s front room where they had put two Teppanyaki tables in. Chef Shigeru has been a chef here since the 1970s. and through Google Translate told us about his time working at this restaurant. We were the only ones in here our entire dinner. at the end, he asked if he could give us some of his homemade crafts and we, of course said yes. he was so proud of the things he created, and it was the most precious things we brought back from Japan. If you go to Kanazawa and want an amazing unique experience I highly recommend Steak Baron

Honestly, driving cars in foreign countries can be one of the most stressful things that happens when you’re traveling. Not only are you not used to the roads but sometimes the signs aren’t in English and you’re dealing with local drivers on local roads. We’ve rented cars in three countries now and I think we’re finally at a place where it’s not something we dread doing when we travel. #carrental #costrica #traveltips
Premium travel cards offer amazing airport lounge perks, but getting in is becoming increasingly difficult. Here's how to make the most of it this summer! #airportlounges #prioritypass #traveling
The great debate in Costa Rica travel is do you rent a car?
This was my husbands 2nd time driving in Costa Rica and my first and having a car gives you freedom and flexibility for sure! We are so happy we rented a car but here are thing to keep in mind:
1. They warn you driving at night can be pretty dangerous. If you can help it drive during daylight hours.
2. A ton of roads are narrow mountain roads especially between San Jose and La Fortuna. Be prepared for some mountain passes and right situations.
3. We rented a Kia picante and we loved the size BUT having a car with more power would have been nice on some roads.
4. We rented through Adobe Car rental and had no issues!
5. Waze is the gps app you want to use in Costa Rica. It has so much info and gives you the best route.
6. People pass aggressively here. Even if you are going the speed limit so be away or your surroundings!
Overall we were thrilled we decided to rent a car! #travel #costarica #rentalcar
Do you want to go to Guatemala or Costa Rica?
I have had a few people reach out asking if we preferred Guatemala or Costa Rica more!
Honestly both countries offer an incredible experience with amazing activities and wonderful culture, it just depends on what you are looking for and the ease of travel!
