The Favelle Favco M2480 is the world’s largest luffing-jib tower crane, with a maximum lifting capacity of 330 tonnes. Configured for NEXTDC M2 Melbourne in a 2-fall hoist arrangement, it enables lifts of up to 110 tonnes, including approximately 72 tonnes at a 55m radius. It will be utilised to install rooftop plant across the facility, including 18 Generator Modules, 16 Battery Enclosures, and 16 Transformer Units.
The key challenge on site has been logistics. Rooftop plant layouts typically drive reliance on large mobile cranes, which can block perimeter access routes and disrupt surrounding operations. Operating from a compact 8m x 6m piled concrete raft, the M2480 enables heavy installation while maintaining access, reducing congestion, and minimising disruption.
Selected with a customer-centric focus, this approach reduces mobile crane requirements, delivering savings through fewer mobilisations while improving safety and programme certainty.

The installation of the new Wandong rail overpass has been successfully delivered using an LR1600 , involving 257 tonnes under hook lifted and placed during a tightly controlled rail possession.
The scale of the lift required extensive engineering, detailed lift planning, and precise coordination across all teams on site.
Execution on the night was smooth, controlled, and completed safely, marking a significant step forward in project delivery.
