Meet Sophia #MASA52255 🩷
If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion, Sophia might just be your perfect match. This sweet mama is fully embracing her couch potato era and is happiest when she’s curled up close to her people soaking up all the love and affection she can get.
Sophia is potty trained, walks well on a leash, and already knows commands like sit, stay, paw, and lay down. She has been around dogs, cats, men, women, and children in her foster home and has done well with everyone.
Her ideal home is simple: a comfy couch, lots of affection, and humans who don’t mind a big lovable shadow following them around. Sophia has so much love to give and is ready to spend her days being your loyal best friend. 🐾
🚨 FIELD REPORT FRIDAY 🚨
Today we are launching a new weekly series to help our community better understand what Memphis Animal Services is seeing both inside the shelter and out in the field every day.
Each week, we’ll share intake numbers along with photos of the animals and situations our officers and staff are responding to across Memphis.
From 5/6–5/13, MAS brought in 324 animals:
• 48 Owner Surrenders
• 276 Stray/Confiscate
That means the overwhelming majority of animals entering our shelter are coming in as strays or through confiscation cases already happening in our community.
During that same timeframe, 142 animals left through positive outcomes:
• 82 Adoptions
• 10 Returned to Owner
• 42 Rescue Transfers
While we celebrate every adoption and rescue, the reality is that more animals are entering the shelter than leaving.
As an open-intake shelter, Memphis Animal Services accepts animals in need from our community every day. Turning animals away can contribute to pets remaining on the streets, being abandoned, or continuing to add to the already overwhelming stray population across Memphis.
These numbers are why shelters like MAS face difficult capacity challenges every single day.
If you want to help, fostering, adopting, volunteering, donating, reclaiming lost pets quickly, and spaying/neutering your pets all make a direct impact and help create space for the next animal in need!

Memphis Animal Services doesn’t just help dogs and cats. 🐓🦃
These 28 chickens and roosters along with 3 turkeys recently came to us from an overcrowding situation and are now looking for homes of their own. Some of them are missing feathers and will need a little extra TLC while they recover, but they are safe and settling in well.
If you’ve ever thought about adding feathered friends to your family, now is the perfect time to stop by and meet them!
All are available for adoption at Memphis Animal Services today.

🚨🐱 CAT FOSTERS — we need a bottle baby rescue team! 🐱🚨
FIVE tiny bottle babies just arrived at MAS and need foster ASAP! They’re around 3 weeks old and can go:
🍼 in pairs/groups of 2–3
or
🍼 all together as one adorable little family
Even fostering them for just ONE night would help us tremendously. 💜
We’re open until 4 PM, so please head over ASAP if you can take these babies in and give them a safe warm place tonight. 🌸
Tiny kittens. Big need. Who can help?
🐾🌸 KITTEN SEASON HAS GONE FULL CHAOS 🌸🐾
Y’all… we need CAT FOSTERS, and we need them NOW.
Memphis Animal Services has the biggest foster cat crowd we’ve seen in a long time:
🍼 4 groups of mom-less kittens
🐱 17 (!!) mama cats with babies
That is a LOT of tiny mouths to save.
We have kittens of every age, color, and fluff level needing temporary homes TODAY through this weekend.
✨ Mom-less kittens = great for smaller groups or foster-to-adopt
✨ Moms with babies = mama does most of the feeding and grooming!
Important: Mama cats must foster with ALL of their kittens — no splitting families.
Never fostered before? We’ll show you everything you need to know, and we provide ALL supplies: food, litter, toys, bottles, and more.
⏰ Available first-come, first-served:
Today + Friday: 1–6 PM
Saturday + Sunday: 12–4 PM
Please come help us clear out this kitten chaos and save lives. 💜🐾
We could use a little help from our community ❤️
Right now, we’re in need of:
• Dry cat food for our pet pantry (this helps keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter)
• Medium Milk-Bone treats for our clinic
If you’re able to donate, it truly makes a difference for the pets and people we serve every day.
Donations can be dropped off during business hours. Thank you for always showing up for Memphis pets.

What a difference a little love can make 💙
Snow B #masa52221 came to us injured, picked up off the streets of Memphis. His future was uncertain… but everything changed when the right people saw him.
From all the way in New York, his new family knew they had to help. With the support of @teammemphisrescuesupport , Snow B got his second chance — and he took it.
Now? He’s thriving. Healing. Loved. And officially a hiking fanatic 🥾🌲
His family shared, “We love him, and he has come such a long way.”
Stories like Snow B’s are why we do this.
We couldn’t be happier for you, sweet boy 🐾
