Wow. Huge thank you to everybody who attended the opening weekend of the Other Side; my artist residency project to uplift voices from Houston's immigrant community through art. We kicked off the six week residency period with a SOLD-OUT concert. Our next event is a free poetry reading this Thursday 4/14.
Thanks to @freshartsorg for giving me the opportunity to create a space where everyone can belong, no matter how "other" they feel.
I feel so loved. Although I created this project myself, I have a team of incredible people helping me. @addison_freeman is my right-hand man. @lupehernandez_art helped me set up this gallery space and made the beautiful papel picado you ses in the photos. @jpaxtogram and @j.andradevisualarts took these incredible photos. @slwalker500 handled all the tickets at the door. @bc_smith and @jurasmith ran the bar. @elnicomusic performed his gorgeous songs. @_francoalejandra shared with us the moving story of her family. Thank you to all of the immigrant and first-gen artists who agreed to showcase their beautiful art in this space.
