This very fascinating case was linguistically analyzed by Fromkin et al (1974), where they tracked language acquisition .They challenged the Lenneberg Critical age theory of language acquisition stopping after a certain age.
Transferring it to Igbo language acquisition , Genie’s case also proved that social interaction is the master key, fueled by interaction with More Knowledgeable Others (MKOs). For the Igbo heritage learner, this case is a powerful reminder: even if the “optimal window” for L1 immersion was missed due to English dominance, deliberate social scaffolding can still trigger significant linguistic growth .(Ugonna, 2026)

Sometimes I create Igbo story books for fun.
Because of a topic very very dear to my heart -motherese (a high pitched, hyper articulated speech register,that help young children parse causal speech boundaries, making language acquisition easy peasy.-think Miss Rachel).
The kids are my beta testers for using English as a bridge to Igbo acquisition and their errors are data points for gauging tonal mastery!! We”ll get there.
