My fellow Spartans.
It’s so great to see so many of you from the Music Department, Band Programs, Wind and Orchestras just absolutely crushing it across the country.
Friends from my era are leading university programs in places like Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and elsewhere.
Others have offspring who are climbing big time musical charts and selling out arena shows.
Others lead departments or specialties at Universities in Oklahoma, Florida, and elsewhere.
Many graduates have been appointed to key leadership posts with some of the most prestigious high school programs across the nation.
Many are simply making music in various idioms, gaining Grammy nominations, and performing at high levels.
It’s frankly just damn impressive.
You all embody “Spartan Will” - knowing the difference between effort and entitlement.
Go Green!
Years ago in my ad days I had a banking client. I handled the account and developed a friendship with their EVP of Marketing.
One day he invited me to his home for a private event. In attendance was John Wooden who had done appearances and other promotional work for the bank.
On this day, it was really a casual barbecue. My marketing friend brought Coach Wooden (who was a bit physically feeble at that point) over to my table to be with me, and asked that I help him with anything Coach might need. Needless to say I was honored to do so.
For four hours I got to spend one on one time with Coach Wooden. Except for the occasional interruption by other attendees, it was really just the two of us. Sitting at a table, enjoying a backyard barbecue.
Other than my mentioning of my MSU Spartans, we didn’t talk about basketball.
We talked about all kinds of things like anyone would at a barbecue.
His presence made it impossible for almost everyone there to ask for autographs. Each time he signed, I could see a bit of discomfort on his face. It wasn’t that he hated signing, but it was clear he just felt uncomfortable with adulation.
I never asked for an autograph, and it was during a period when cell phones didn’t have cameras. “Selfies” had yet to be invented.
So it was really just time talking about life and connecting with John Wooden.
I walked away from that day with a keen understanding that the greatest of the great can be incredibly humble, and hunger for the normality we all enjoy without realizing it.
Fame is a reward for success but also a burden. The best of the best handle it by never losing who they really are. They never “big time” anyone.
It’s exciting to see friends grow in success and acquire new found fame. If they adopt Coach Wooden’s humility they’ll rise even further.
Humility is an incredible gift. Getting to see it close up with Coach was a gift of a lifetime.
Be like John Wooden.
This is a pretty big thing. In 70 years Honda has never had a loss.
Betting heavily on EV, the demand cycle hasn’t arrived yet. Ironically as gas prices soar, EV has yet to take hold.
Until range improves and pricing remains high, drivers can’t yet adopt.
Other car companies have pulled back from EV as well.
Ya can't do a show with Aerosmith's music as a feature and not invite one of our favorite bands, "RAGDOLLS", cause no one represents them better.

So Rubio holds a press conference and says the goal is to have the Strait of Hormuz “go back to the way it was”!
I’m sorry, but my (even seemingly reasoned Republican friends) have to admit this Administration has F’d this entire situation so badly. If you don’t you’re an absolute fool.
MY GOSH WHAT INCOMPETENCE!!!!
“Hear ye, hear ye…

Emily Lauren took this photo while attending the Renaissance Faire but it raises so many questions.
If you’re a Knight do you hold your own umbrella? I thought they had squires for that sort of thing?…
Was Pepsi Medieval? Then why did they market it as “the choice of a new generation?”…
How does one drink a Pepsi while holding it along with an umbrella and still wearing a mask?…
It’s ok to sit and chat with another Knight who looks to be from a different realm?…Don’t Kings frown on that sort of thing?
What are they talking about? How to get the best deal from chainmail.com?…
So very many questions…🤔.
Lol
The job loss with the closure of Spirit Airlines is significant. I feel for the dedicated team that showed up to do their jobs every day and are now on the street.
On the other hand, Spirit’s leadership team should never run another airline or be in high positions in the industry.
Long before the oil inflation the airline declared as its death knell, it was being horribly mismanaged.
Championed as the budget airline, it was nothing but bait and switch ticket scams, fee upon fee, fees for the most ridiculous things, poor customer service, uncomfortable planes, delays caused by inefficient operations, and on and on.
I would go out of my way to avoid that airline because not only from a customer experience side was it horrible, but I always got the sense it was cutting every corner it could with safety as well.
I don’t know anyone who had a good experience with them.
My hope is that its fleet and routes will be absorbed by another far more stable carrier along with the job losses.
But I’m sorry, regardless of the business you are in, you just can’t treat customers like they don’t matter.
